hubbys last night at work..... wooo hooo! so happy to get him off the third shift schedule, was always really worried about the effects on his health. i know some people who have done it almost their whole working lives but im glad this chapter has come to an end. i was looking through photos from about five years ago of us and could not believe how much grayer hubby hair has become. i don't take inventory on mine very often (denial) but he likes to point them out some times :) the main thing i noticed is the dark circles we both have, mine from allergy and no sleep and his probably from lack of sunlight.
hope everyone had a great day.
the rain drove my aphid problem away for now....any one who knows of anything green i can do to keep them gone? would be much appreciated.
good night topix.
Betty- we lived that swing shift many years! Yes, it's hard and we suffered. Not only was our sleep schedule messed up, our holidays were kinda crazy and nobody else really understood our lifestyle. Back at that time there was another mockingbird that sang its little heart out while hubby tried to get some shut eye. Hubby would have liked to wrung its feathered neck. Lol

It makes no sense to me that with all the available negative threads, that some people still insist on coming here and complaining about one positive thread where posters share information and actually try to be nice to each other for the most part.

If their disposition is so sour and negative, why can't they just stay away or wallow in the gutter and filth of the other threads?

Boy, oh boy! I sure understand that ! There was a thread our little group posted on and the only requirement was to be nice to each other.. Filthy accusations and relentless trash destroyed a warm fuzzy group. Cyber vandals.

Well folks I sincerely hope a little obnoxiousness on my part bothered nobody. When I replied back to someone referring to todays soldiers as crybabies I respnded back to a faulty generalization in a manner I felt appropriate(with a little obnoxious fun). The fact that I found no support in my point, per other things I read here, was a little confusing.
Two posts I read actually seemed to support a little obnoxoious fun. Miss E in particular, not the person behind the Miss E handle, If I misunderstood and this post has been for nought, then I simply did what we do here and posted some thoughts.

At Wolf...your post to the effect of doing your best work upon being offended, and a later post about sharing your surplus eggs sparked the following reply. I didn't post it because I considered it would be taken out of context

(Well Wolf that must have been a lot of work since hauling a dozen eggs wears your old butt out. Please don't try for two dozen! Wouldn't want to be be accused of ticking you off and causing you to break an arm.)

Naturally the post would have been designed to spark a little easy goin humor from you. I have recently learned, at least in my case, that serious all the time=dull and unhealthy. I am one that can laugh at himself without being down on himself.

My reference to performing my best work when I am offended was actually referring to when I had a most demanding career in high tech and people's impatience and telephones ringing faster than I could answer or even address the problem. Since I retired, there is very little that offends me, especially topix. If it did, old Una and a few others would have run me off a long time ago. LOL As for packing eggs, I have a truck LOL

For aphids, a drop of dish detergen ti several cups of water, good dash of cayenne pepper. Shake and spray. Be careful and test this first. Ithas known to be safe on roses and basil;)

Also, take over a quart of water and strain 5 large garlic through it and mix with cayenne pepper, use this in a sprayer. It will help with the aphid problems.
Hope it helps. Good day to all. Windy and rainy here. Glad we're back to our polite forum. I try not to get naughty and impolite;)

I recall the post comparing today's Soldier to ones of the past. Well, the main difference I saw from the past is that men had no choice. War is Hell no matter which way a person cuts it. The situations and difficulties of the times with less accurate weapons and lack of equipment made it more difficult to perform the duties of a Soldier. But a gun and bayonet are the basics in war. It's kill or be killed.
It's disgruntling and somewhat ambiguous to say one soldier in battle has it harder than the other.

No rain here!! Steamy hot though! Enjoyed several yard sales earlier and when I returned home I decided its time for AC! Oh, yeah!!
Btw, all politeness and niceness IS , ummm, boring! Brutal, harsh insults can get quite disturbing.
Moderation moderation! While I really don't participate in troll bashing, I do enjoy a good verbal exchange every now and then. Lol

for the record i found no offense to anything you posted. actually i agree with you. hubby may not have been on that beach that morning in Normandy but he sure spent many nights shivering in a foxhole during desert storm. for one to try and compare the soldiers of the 40's to our brave men serving today over who are fighting over seas, it sure is sad that the poster seemed to miss a few key points. both the soldiers from back then and those who are in today were fighting for the same cause and equally willing to die for that cause. i agree that nowadays its hard to know if we are sending our men and women over a just cause but, i don't think that gives anyone the right to question the sacrifices an individual soldier makes. even if we don't support the cause, we should support our troops.

i only take offense to those who come on this thread specifically to incite arguments that normally have little to do with things that really matter. those who just spout off to get a rise out of another because they are bored with their meaningless lives.

so from my point of view, please feel free to always post your thoughts. thanks to our brave men and women in the armed forces, and even tho some times it may not seem like it when you read about the IRS targeting tea party members and the govt using drones to spy on us, its still a FREE country.

The dish detergent should work. Just use a minimal amount like a tablespoon. Just spot check it first. Detergent could possibly kill one's plants where as garlic is safer. The whole garlic carries a potent punch. You're very, very welcome:)
