I've lived in Lexington, Louisville, Cincinnati (twice), San Francisco, Washington (DC), Los Angeles, and visited San Diego, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Nashville, among many other large cities.

I hated, HATED Louisville when I lived there. I remember when I left whenever I visit, which I have to 1-2x per year. San Francisco and L.A. have attitude problems, yes, but they are also melting pots for the world where some extremely interesting and fun people live. Most people in California honestly don't care that I'm some "hillbilly" from Kentucky because they're so used to transplants from all over the world. It also helps that I have a great sense of humor and can take hillbilly jokes--and dish California jokes right back.

Louisville just has some of the most personality-devoid, arrogant, cold people in the United States. Cincinnati and Lexington aren't all that much better, but still noticeably better, and the quality of life is generally much higher in either city.

Louisville just...sucks.

My family and I loved KY when traveling through. The people I met were kind (maybe because I'm not a jerk to people)and the State was beautiful. When we got back to Wisconsin we started looking at homes in Lexington and liked what we found. I earn a good pension and houses we found were cheep for nice houses. I am a retired cop because I was injured in the line of duty (you wouldn't know I was a cop unless I told you. I'm not your stereotypical arrogant power monger.)and my wife is a nurse. We were very excited to move to Lexington until I found this site. Now I'm wondering if we may be making a mistake. Maybe someone can answer a couple questions for me.#1. We have 2 school aged children, are the schools that terrible or could a lot have to do with lack of parental involvement?#2. Some of the posts I read make it sound like because we are not from KY we would be harassed and treated poorly, is that truly the case? I don't care if people don't want to be my friend, but I don't want to be in a pissing match with someone everyday. I'm hoping someone can give me an idea of what to really expect. Is it what we experienced or what I'm reading on this site.

Hi all. We may move to Bowling Green, KY, because of a job offer. Is that a nice town? In which direction should we buy a house if not so nice? Or is it all together a bad idea to move to KY?

Help us. Every opinion out there counts...

Are you kidding me?!!! I'm from New York and I find the people here to be the most rude, ignorant and crude people I have ever met! I've lived down south, out west and other places and Kentucky has to be the worst. They are racist, they hate outsiders and they have the manners of a goat! They don't know how to say excuse me, the worst drivers and ignorant beyond belief. I've have lived in Louisville (Loserville) for several years and cannot wait to get out of this city, county, state. Many people from Kentucky come back to Kentucky because nobody else wants them!

I have lived all over Kentucky all my life. Yes, there are rude people all over but I'm sure there are some good people. I hate it here however. I can not wait to leave. I will be leaving my entire family but, it will have to be in order to make myself be happy.
I do have a question, where would the best place to be?

Ignore those rumors. The schools in Lexington are good, better than in Louisville, and the people are kind, like you noticed. There are different kinds of people in different states. Kentucky has the kind kind.

I am from Corbin, KY. Born and raised. I moved to Arizona when I was 19 and am now 33. I can tell you what is going on for sure. People in Kentucky like everywhere else in the world have there own culture. The problem is that people in Kentucky don't realize that Kentucky's culture is a lack of culture! They think there way is the only way and the funny thing is that they are uneducated, unmotivated people who dream big and think small. The second dreams require action and they realize they have to change almost everything about them selves to make it anywhere in the country, they move back. Mostly out of fear and ignorance. They look at everywhere as inferior when in actuality, they are among the poorest and uneducated in the nation.
I wish all who truly want to escape can! Kentucky is a black whole of country fried misery! At least the grass is green for the part of the year that isn't ice hell or doom and gloom rain. Of course that time of year gives you allergies. God bless you all!
