Natives return because it's an easy place to live - and it sucks to have to live somewhere you might have to make it on your own abilities.

Not being from around here, I'm always happy to get the look on my face that says "no, I really don't know who your daddy was & I really don't care." OTOH I'm always surprised to see an incompetent individual in a high-powered job & realize "oh yeah, his daddy was .....", etc.

I feel truly sorry for the young people who say "you have to know someone", they're exactly right. They need to move while they're young enough to start over - then don't give up!

Lexington was a beautiful place when we moved here 30 years ago and now it's been developed into ugliness. Good ole boy, in-bred politics at it's best. It's only getting worse and moving is the only choice. Have at it UK, Central Baptist, & Mr. Webb!

Kentucky ranks #1 in the nation in child abuse and tooth loss, ranks 2 nd in government handouts, the capital county ranks #1 in the state for welfare and other govt handouts. The education system is a joke and the people who love it here just don't get it, it must b the contact buzz from their toothless inbred Hatfield McCoy neighbor ! What a place to b proud of !!!!!

I lived in Kentucky once. Louisville. My family and I moved away. My children deserved an education. And the corruption on every level of every organization is mind boggling. The churches are even dirty. I'll admit that I've lived on the west coast, east coast, up north, and briefly in Florida. I like the Midwest. Virtually every city has some disfunction, but Louisville is seriously jacked up. It has every disfunction. From a filthy local government all the way down to the trash collectors. The charities in looserville are corrupt. Never again. Much of what has been stated is correct based upon my experience.

I've been living in Louisville as a new resident for over a year now. I must say I quite like it here.

A couple of thoughts:
1. What suits me now, may not have been m ideal city to live in. It really just depends on at what stage are you in your life.
20ish? you are all about partying...love big cities
30ish? family is key...perhaps you may like it here, although you will be paying for private education shortly
40ish? cost of living is good...you may stay
50ish....stay or move, that depends on where you are planning to retire.

Overall people are friendly here...not sure why some commented the contrary.

...and if you have always lived here, stop hating the city and blaming it fr everything. If you can't get out of here, it's because of your own lack of talent!

When you get to chose where you live, that makes a difference how you look at your life and how you find your own happiness.

Those who look for a new experience, go and get it, what are you waiting for? Make your own choice...

Sure theres no garden of eden in every town city or state. But there is a high incidence of my personal encounters with kentucky folks that were negative. This then leads to a supposition that more people are like that here. Yes its better to get on and get out in a cesspool and let it die.

Screw Kentucky. The KKK lives here and they are the ones who bled you dry. No wonder Lincoln moved to Illinois and stayed there.

My guess is you are just like I was when I was your age. I left at 20, and traveled for 10 years. I've worked all over the country. The only place that I would live other, other than here, is Charleston, SC. Kentucky is the least rude populous I've seen. Not sure why you feel that way. Northern Kentucky is not even really Kentucky. It's southern Ohio, and is a world apart from the rest of the state. Maybe that's your problem.....you're personality fits in more with the more aggressive, more difficult to passify Northern/Midwestern lifestyle....which Louisville has a small touch of. The rest of the state is more laid back/Southern.
its not just louisville, it the whole state. the people in ky, not all, but for the most part are ignorant and the ones who are smart, leave.

Well Chuck,
Your wonderful Kentucky education is showing. Is your spelling that bad, or don't you know how to find all the letters on your keyboard? I venture to bet you have never lived outside of the state so I understand you not knowing what you're missing.
well, OBVIOUSLY, Chuck was just trying to talk like he does when texting. I'm also from Lexington, and I agree, we aren't that mean or
rude, and not all Kyians are stupid. I'm in the 6th grade and I'm in algrebra, but of course I am in the advanced program. One of my other friends is in FREAKING GEOMETRY AND SHES IN 6th grade!*obviously not where you were at that point!* Not everyone in KY has an accent, and even if they do they can't help it! I just don't know why so many people think KY is just rednecks and horses, it's not. If it was, nobody would want to live here. It's important to me. And for everyone- have you EVER heard of maybe the KY HORSE RACES? There is a reason that even the QUEEN OF FREAKING ENGLAND HAS VISITED IT! I love KY and so do Many other people. It's hurting my feelings that everyone thinks of KY this way.

to all the people claiming kentuckians are ignorant , uneducated , rude hillbillys, and so on blah blah blah. You might wanna check yourself for believing once you cross an imaginary line into kentucky , that humans just change into all these names. Not claiming to be the smartest person ever but im pretty sure you can find these types of people anywhere . All in all i would say its pretty laid back here, not all people like the fast pace city life

I started traveling when I was 17. And stopped when I was 23. I have been to thirty diff states. and all the while I have always ended back in Kentucky. The truth is it dosent matter where u go and were ur from (if Kentucky) U always come back. It does not matter if u live, in the city or country, if u were born and raised there its always gonna be Home. Now that I am 31. I look back and I always say why did I not stay in Main, or Texas, Hey how about Alabama, Because. It's not home.Yea there are a lot of rude people, snobs etc. But I always missed the sound of bullfrogs down by the creek, Or the sound of my dad cutting grass on a sunday morning, my window open, the smell of the grass clippings waking me up. Or Hunting for deer on a snowy winters morning in the woods in the tree stand. There are a lot of things that make Kentucky home to me. And for that I am stuck here for life.
