i would just like to take a moment to comment on the person who is blaming the lack of welfare reform on liberals/democrats. first of all i am a proud democrat i have been trying to get something done about this issue for a very long time&so have many, many other democrats. i am a 40 year old mother of 3. i have never taken any "assistance" even though we are poor & struggle every week. there are many things we can say about republicans if you want to go there. in all my yrs i have never seen a republican do anything except whats good for the rich or big money. never for the working class people. so be careful who you are blaming for the mess the welfare system is in. the excuses used for throwing this bill out are nonsense & ridiculous i agree. but wait.... aren't the republicans the majority right now? who you gonna blame when THEY do NOTHING about this issue? i say if we ALL make enough noise on this issue MAYBE,just maybe something will happen. blaming one political party/group is a stupid way to go about it because there is corruption, ignorance&greed in both parties. none of which helps the everyday joe so lets get real

In this economy that's about 50%. Things keep going the way they are, we will all be welfare queens and princes.

Boone,
Several points you make require a fact ck. First, where are republicans in the majority? Not at the Ky or Federal level. Second, painting a broad brush accusation that republicans do what is good for the rich or big money requires examples.

I for one pay more than 50% of my pay in taxes and see people in need buying and selling drugs while letting their children go hungry and living in a bug infested environment. I used to hang with some of these addicts but soon realized I had to make a change or I would be one of them. Thank god I chose god's way.

I am for testing anyone receiving assistance. Let them earn the help they need. Use the savings for the foster parents that end of having to care for these neglected kids. They are the ones in need.

Do you think the only tax is federal? State, local, occupational, SSI. Include sales and gas. Ever stay at a hotel, that is over a 10% tax.

We are taxed way too much to support people who take advantage of the system, are lazy, make bad decisions.

For those truly disabled or down on their luck I would help. Problem is the safety net has become a hammock. You get what you earn and if you think you deserve other peoples $ you will soon learn those days are coming to an end. The church or social organizations should handle this, not government.

Are you aware that over 50% of people do not pay into the system (payroll, income, SSI)? That means the minority is supporting the majority. Do you think we can sustain this.

What has government fixed? Heathcare? Social security? Everytime the government gets involved it become wasteful, people take advantage of the deep pockets and someone profits while costing the majority that don't benefit.
