Terry Mattingly: Baptist churches reporting fewer baptisms

Jun 14, 2013 Full story: ReporterNews.com 71

Visitors who enter Southern Baptist churches these days will usually see posters and pamphlets for everything from marriage-enrichment retreats to tornado-relief fundraisers, from weight-loss classes to drives to find volunteers for African hospitals.

Who? Oh you mean the made up sky daddy who spanks you when you're bad and pats you on the head when you're good. Some people just can't stand on their own two feet and have to have a crutch just to get through life......so sad when that happens.
BTW, your crutch is only a desparate wish.
You, of course, are too smart and educated, independent and too wise to believe in fairy tales?

You don't "know" any of that. There are thousands (at least) of opinions and beliefs on the matter, and yours is but one. Your arrogance is betrayed by the fact that you don't acknowledge that.
A god who would torture me with fire for admitting the limitations of my own knowledge isn't worth worshipping. Keep your kool-aid,
I do know there are many differing opinions. Christians do know the truth of this matter. The Holy Bible states that The sheep of Christ, the shepherd who loves His sheep, know the voice of Christ. That is an analogy. Christians know Christ.

If you refuse to worship the one who created everything, including yourself, that is your call. It is a foolish thing to do since the stakes are so high. You may want to give that more thought.

You can call Christianity a fairy tale if you wish; however, hiding your head in the sand won't help you when you are face-to-face with God, and He judges you on what you did in this life. Anyone who has even the slightest bit of intelligence knows there is a Creator who made the Universe with all that entails. Many wish that everything was somehow created by chance and there are no consequences for what we do in this life. I see that you are perhaps afraid (?) of mentioning Christ's name, or is it a sign of disrespect?
I know that not all will make it through the gates of the Kingdom of God. But, all will get the chance to reject God or accept Christ as Savior. The ball is in your court now, don't drop it. What you do with Christ in this life is a "forever"decision.
Christ on crutches, I deny the holy spook errrr...ghost. There, how's that?

I believe in bona fide proof if that's what you're dancing around. You don't understand that I don't hate you, I don't have any ill will against your god. I do NOT believe in it.

Problem is, so many people cling to these ancient myths. They want this crutch to help them through life. Why can't people just rear up on their hind legs and accept their own responsibility? It's really quite baffling.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
John 10:27-29 (KJV)

Yes; he walks with me and talks with me.... And, I know.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Heb 11:1-3 (KJV)

This substance and evidence, evidence, evidence --- there is evidence if you are not blind or blinded. When one doesn't know they shouldn't assume no one else knows either.

It's not an assumption. Delusions of grandeur aside, you don't know any more than anybody else. Knowledge can be proven. What you have is an opinion, not a fact.

All the other religions "just know" their gods are real, too. Yours isn't special.

You know, there is one unforgiveable sin mentioned specifically in the Holy Bible, and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. You might want to think about your attitude.

It's not even original, it's been cobbled together from older religions and borrowing from the adjacent religions of that time and place. Anything to make it more palatable and that sort of backfired, didn't it?

What is bona fide proof to you is different from my definition of bona fide proof, obviously. When I said that Christians know, I didn't mean that Christians want to believe or they believe in fairy tales.

Christians have a relationship with God. They talk to God and God answers them. Yes, I know that you will come back with a smart wisecrack, but that is ok. You aren't hurting my feelings at all because I understand where you are in believing in God and I know that you are standing on a glass cover to a deep and dark pit. The glass might give way at any second. No one knows when he will die. You are in a very precarious predicament.

I have read many myths. I enjoy reading about history and what makes people tick. The Christian relationship with God is very real. It is a myth to you because you don't belong to God. You have to justify to yourself why you don't believe in Him. You have to look at those who do believe in God with prejudiced eyes. Trust me in this, Christians feel sympathy for you because they know how you will end up when you die. I do truly feel sorry for you.

If there comes a time when God does give you mercy by bringing you to Him, you will be extremely blessed.

No, Sharia Law would be right down your alley. Fundamentalists are basically all the same. You would force your extremist view of xtianity on this nation in a heartbeat. Fortunately, we're protected from the likes of you.
Your simplistic black and white views make a joke of your supposed accomplishments. You are neither traveled or educated is my guess. Don't get me wrong, I don't know you at all, but those who toot their own horns the loudest are usually those with the least to brag about.
You say you don't know me, yet you guess that I am neither educated nor traveled. I have a Master's Degree from the University of South Dakota. My Bachelor's Degree is from a college in Mississippi.

I put in nearly 25 years in the U.S. Air Force with around 11 years overseas: Belgium, Vietnam, Turkey, Germany and England. I traveled around Europe in Countries like Italy, Spain, and Austria.

I realize that you believe that a Christian must be uneducated, semi-illiterate, and parochial. A "smart" person wouldn't believe in "fairy tales." Your prejudice is showing.

In the Independent Baptist Church I attend, many have college degrees including doctorate degrees. Even my wife has a doctorate degree. What about you? Where have you traveled and what is your educational level?

It is possible to be educated in this world, yet be very foolish when it comes to salvation through Jesus Christ. True wisdom comes only from God, not from this world or a secular education, or being well-traveled.

All that education, yet you still can't discern fact from opinion. True wisdom comes from not thinking you already have it.

No, Bob. It is strange that you cannot discern that for yourself. God and His words are fact and wisdom.

Prove it.

That's the criteria for a fact, in the real world.

Without knowledge; without God and no proof as you do not know.

You people have goofy logic. If I hit my finger with a hammer and know the impact and pain.......... It is not guess work. Just because you've never experienced it doesn't mean that the one has doesn't know ---------- you admit you are without knowledge but since you don't know you are narrow enough to think that no one else can what what you don't. Without the saving grace of God and without the knowledge of the Holy Spirit of God and without experiencing (evidence)- you simply do not know. You do not hear for you are not a child of God.

Well the problem with idiotic atheists is they take whatever scientists opinion sounds best to the government. Because we all know the government would never produce false or corrupt information and if God could be absolutely proven we all know the government would share with us truthful and complete revelations. I'll bet everyone of you atheists have conducted scientific experiments and excavated all dig sites and studied yourself the theory of evolution, or are you just going bywhat you have heard and read on public school text books. What a bunch of sweet pink piggies, just take that spoon fed info and suckle.

You have to be smarter than this. Faith and the Christian's relationship with the Almighty is proof to the Christian. If you cannot see it yourself, it is very much your shortcoming.

you prove that evolution is real. Have you dug fragments up and studied them personally or do you go by what others say like Christians do? At least Christians are polite, atheists are just complete big headed douche bags, not to mention hypocrites

Carbon dating and the fossil record are evidence. "If I say it it's so" is not. You crackpots demonstrate nothing but circular logic, comfirmation bias, and pigheaded egotism.

Materialism masquerading as spiritual enlightenment is pathetic. You've essentially said only Christians can see evidence to support Christianity. That's pretty much a textbook definition of comfirmation bias.

Get over yourself. You're no prophet.
