Terry Mattingly: Baptist churches reporting fewer baptisms

Jun 14, 2013 Full story: ReporterNews.com 71

Visitors who enter Southern Baptist churches these days will usually see posters and pamphlets for everything from marriage-enrichment retreats to tornado-relief fundraisers, from weight-loss classes to drives to find volunteers for African hospitals.

Not at all, long as it doesn't get legislated and forced on us unenlightened infidels. Why would I?
You don't need to worry about legislation forcing Christianity on people. If any religion is enforced on citizens of the U.S., it will likely be the Islamists who do the forcing. If you don't like Christianity, you would just love Sharia Law.

No, Sharia Law would be right down your alley. Fundamentalists are basically all the same. You would force your extremist view of xtianity on this nation in a heartbeat. Fortunately, we're protected from the likes of you.

Your simplistic black and white views make a joke of your supposed accomplishments. You are neither traveled or educated is my guess. Don't get me wrong, I don't know you at all, but those who toot their own horns the loudest are usually those with the least to brag about.

It's all the same. Thankfully, neither the taliban nor the talibaptists make our laws.

Comments like "your life is worthless" show the true colors of "Christians."

I'd be willing to bet you have a skeleton or two in your own closet. The truly righteous don't tend to cloak themselves in materialistic religion.

Soon as I typed that, I saw this headline at the top of the page:

"Married Megachurch Pastor Fired After Admitting to Sex With 16-Year-Old Church Member"

Typical. They had to fire him, to avoid embarrassment until the next guy hiding his true nature behind false righteousness comes along.

In what do the "truly righteous" cloak themselves?

Most everyone has skeletons; however, Christians are forgiven by God. That is a huge difference.

People with nothing to hide don't need a cloak.

Some of the worst atrocities are committed by fools who think they have a "get out of jail free" card.

It's a shame that you think it's "god's" forgiveness that matters, when it's real, live humans who are harmed. Your bullheaded arrogance blinds you to that, though.

You can get away with anything, with god on your side to forgive you, right? Just look through history for plenty of evidence of what evil comes from your frame of mind. In our own land Manifest Detiny led to genocide. Your bible was used to justify slavery, and now, denial of civil rights for people who couldn't give a rat's ass about what you believe.

But in your mind, you have all the answers and everybody else needs your guidance. What kind of delusional asshole claims to speak for god? If the bible were the word of god, he wouldn't have needed humans to write it for him.

More and more people see through your game, every day.

You don't "totally get" anything. Seriously, that's the best you can do to address all I said? Your gods are as irrellevant to me as those of any other mythology.

Yeah, I know; yours are different and the only true ones. Just like every other religion says...

Your reading comprehension needs work. I did answer your question; your god is no different to me than the thousands of others. Irrelevant.

You claim to know the unknowable. Narcissism is an ugly trait.

I wanted your opinion of God head on. It isn't an ususual thing to hate Christians since you hate the Christian God. That is an honest evaluation of your position on God, right? Then, let's proceed from that standpoint.

Have "Christians" done wrong in your evaluation? That isn't a strange thing. Christians do still commit sinful acts as they have the sinful nature, and will have until the end of existence on this earth. There are also those who say they are Christians, yet they don't have the fruits of the divine nature which does inhabit true Christians: That is the Holy Spirit that is in the Christian.

Am I happy about the next life since I know that I will be a citizen of the Kingdom of God. You betcha. Do I hold you in any sense of arrogance? No. If I did, I wouldn't bring up God to you or talk about Jesus Christ which is the one road back to God the Father. If you want to live for all eternity in the Kingdom of God, talk to Jesus about your salvation. You know this already, don't you?

You, and I, were born in sin and will commit sin until you die, so will I. However, my sins have been forgiven. And, the fruits of salvation involves struggling against committing sin.

If you want to know more, ask me or better yet, ask Jesus Christ. You know these things. I am simply reminding you.

You don't "know" any of that. There are thousands (at least) of opinions and beliefs on the matter, and yours is but one. Your arrogance is betrayed by the fact that you don't acknowledge that.

A god who would torture me with fire for admitting the limitations of my own knowledge isn't worth worshipping. Keep your kool-aid,

Lol, and now we have a perfect example of the "hook" of xtianity. You say the holy words, a sky pixie waves a majick wand over your head and poof!.....you're with the in crowd and get a free pass to the golden kingdom where everyone lives forever.

Not everyone believes your fairytales. I can agree that it would be nice.....but I prefer reality.

Who? Oh you mean the made up sky daddy who spanks you when you're bad and pats you on the head when you're good. Some people just can't stand on their own two feet and have to have a crutch just to get through life......so sad when that happens.

BTW, your crutch is only a desparate wish.

You can call Christianity a fairy tale if you wish; however, hiding your head in the sand won't help you when you are face-to-face with God, and He judges you on what you did in this life. Anyone who has even the slightest bit of intelligence knows there is a Creator who made the Universe with all that entails. Many wish that everything was somehow created by chance and there are no consequences for what we do in this life. I see that you are perhaps afraid (?) of mentioning Christ's name, or is it a sign of disrespect?

I know that not all will make it through the gates of the Kingdom of God. But, all will get the chance to reject God or accept Christ as Savior. The ball is in your court now, don't drop it. What you do with Christ in this life is a "forever"decision.
