from The Washington Post:

"'My basic view is that regardless of race, regardless of religion, regardless of gender, regardless of sexual orientation, when it comes to how the law treats you, how the state treats you, people should be treated equally,' Obama said.'And thatís a principle that I think applies universally.'

"But Obamaís words rubbed religious and political leaders the wrong way. In Senegal, the West African nation where Islam is the predominant religion, homosexuality is a crime ...

"Homosexuality is illegal in 37 African countries, according to the Washington-based Council for Global Equality, and many religious leaders here view it as contrary to scriptures and custom.

"Sheikh Saliou Mbacke, a Senegalese Muslim leader who coordinates the Interfaith Action for Peace in Africa, said faith leaders have the duty to speak out, especially if outside forces want to impose their will.

"'The subject of homosexuality must not be used as a tool to blackmail and coerce society to defy Godís command, which is more important than any world power,Ē he said.'We will oppose any manner of arm-twisting that threatens us to embrace it in our societies.'"

The only principle that applies universally in the islamic world is sharia, and under sharia, gays -- among others -- are put to death.

Criminalizing natural traits threatens societies. What are gay folks supposed to do, just shut up and lie about it? Marry the bigots's sons and daughters to avoid being killed or imprisoned?

It's not like anyone can stop being gay.

Why are so many heterosexuals so afraid of people who are a little different than they are? Do they think it's catching? Do they fear that God made a mistake. It's insane.

Thanks goodness good men like Obama are willing to stand up and speak the truth. Hopefully more world leaders will show that kind of strength.

.
He's right. It certainly should be applied universally. But, in Africa, there are so-called Christians who call for the death of their fellow humans based on natural traits. Really, from a gay person's point of view, it doesn't matter which religion is being used to torment and even kill you.

There are even some in this country who would love the chance, and have support the "kill the gays" legislation in Africa.Where do you think these ideas came from in the first place?

Christian missionaries.

But, their numbers seem to be dwindling and their voices are being overwhelmed with the voices of others who believe that all humans are created equal. At least in first world countries.

What does Obama think he's scoring for, the Homosexual vote in the US or some kind of legacy like Reagan with 'Tear down this Wall'?

If so it kicked him in the butt like all his other attempts to be a leader of any kind.

Since when are "so-called Christians" called muslims?

"But Obama's words rubbed religious and political leaders the wrong way. In Senegal, the West African nation where Islam is the predominant religion, homosexuality is a crime ..."

... just as it is in every islamic state in the world because, under islamic law, homosexuality is still punishable by death, usually by stoning.
