The Southern Baptists don't even allow women to be pastors nor in positions of leadership. So how can they be taken seriously on anything ?

"Southern Baptist Leaders Seek Softer Approach To Homosexuality"

Worried about their outlier status, and they need the bucks to keep coming in....

The organization's longstanding, disgusting defamation and disfranchisement of lgbt people should not so easily be forgotten just because out of self interest they now have to moderate.

Well, well. So a few Southern Baptists can see the writing on the wall, don't worry, the vast majority of their ignorant, redneck flock will stomp their feet in protest and these few thinkers will back down.

Still, for the SB crowd this in itself is a shock. In another century or so they may even come around.

I can't help but wonder what these poor delusional religious folk will do when science proves beyond any doubt that one's sexual orientation is both immutable and natural. And science will do that (if they haven't already). Anyone who is gay knows that their orientation is the way they were born.

Should we expect an apology? Doubtful. Did the Catholic church apologize after the inquisition?

More likely, we will see religious officials back-pedaling on their anti-gay rhetoric, claiming that their words were misunderstood and they never meant to harm their fellow humans. As evidenced in this article.

They take themselves seriously about the earth being flat and being 6,000 years old.

"Real Christian": A mental illness where the individuals deifies themselves through an imaginary proxy. It is also rare in that it is a contagious disorder usually handed down through families. The condition is debilitating and often manifests itself in violent behavior, incoherent speech and pathological lying.

.Some are Calvinistic
One of the most prominent figures in modern church history, John Calvin, is strongly associated with a belief that is repugnant to most of Christendom, i.e., predestination. Most biblicists believe that God knows what will occur prior to the event but leaves man free to make the choice. In other words, men are free to choose what God already knows will happen. Calvin, on the other hand, stressed biblical pronouncements to the contrary. God doesn't just know ahead of time; he determines it; he fixes it; he plans it; it's his idea. In reality, Calvin viewed free will as myth. In so doing he highlighted one of the most serious, most prominent contradictions in biblical theology--free will versus determinism. His opponents rightly observed that the abolishment of free will destroys moral responsibility. But unfortunately for them literally scores of verses substantiate his position. An exhaustive list in descending order of strength would include the following:

"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,.... Having predestinated us...(Eph. 1:4-5),
"... to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be....whom he did predestinate,..." (Rom. 8:28-30),
".... because God hath from the beginning chosen you " (2 Thess. 2:13),
"....we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of God...after the counsel of his own will" (Eph. 1:11),
"For we are his workmanship,....,(Eph. 2:10),
"A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps" (Prov. 16:9),
"He will carry out what he has planned for me, and of many such matters He is mindful" (Job 23:14 Mod. Lang),
"Only, let every one lead the life which the Lord has assigned to him, and in which God has called him" (1 Cor. 7:17 RSV),
"...your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be" (Psalm 139:16 NIV),
"Man's goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way?" (Prov. 20:24),
"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails" (Prov. 19:21 NIV),
"Man's days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed" (Job 14:5 NIV),

What happened when slavery was made illegal? What happened when women were allowed to vote? The church changed. They changed in spite of the Bible, not because of it.

"Then thou shalt take an awl, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise (Deut. 15:17, KJV)."

"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and you can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly ( Lev. 25:44-46, NIV)."

"If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property (Ex. 21:20-21, NIV)."

"I (the Lord) will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, a nation far away (Joel 3:8, NIV)"

"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men....(Eph. 6:5-7, NIV)."

"All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered (1 Tim. 6:1, NIV)."

"Slaves, obey your earthy masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord (Col. 3:22, NIV)."

"Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them,....(Titus 2:9, NIV)."

"Slaves, submit yourselves to your master with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also those who are harsh....Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps (1 Peter 2:18,21, NIV)."

Imagine the Baptists reading those verses in church again. Or these:

"...and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee (Genesis 3:16)."
"But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man;....(1 Cor. 11:3)."
"Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man (1 Cor. 11:9)."
"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife.... Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husband in every thing (Eph. 5:22-24)."

The church is losing members faster than Congress is losing credibility. The church knows it is in trouble and unless it changes it is going to cease to exist. Good, no one should have invented God in the first place.

The Theory of Evolution is not a belief. The usual confusion from the "religious" types has crept in here, and it's intellectually repulsive.

So you make a point that the Baptists are not monolithic. Neither are the mormons or the Catholics - but their institutions are messed up beyond, well, belief.

That is just the tip of the iceberg where Southern Baptist are concerned.

They are just plain ole nutters.

They can try to "soften" their tone, but the reality is they want to control every little detail of your life.

Nutters!
