Thank you, Timothy Dolan, for showing the true Christian spirit of the RCC. (And yes, Sheldon, this is sarcasm.)

Wow, when I first noticed the headline, I thought it was going to be someone upset about violence, but it appears that old Tittering Timothy Dolan, love his grinning photo, is FOR more violence by his discriminatory language. Why doesn't he pass out baseball bats and pipes and guns to his flock of slack jawed sheep while he is at it?

Here's a legal question.

Shouldn't Dolan etal have to register as foreign lobbyists of a foreign sovereign head of state? And if not, why not?

The Vatican is (rightly or wrongly) recognized as a sovereign nation with the pope as its leader. The vatican, through it's network of cardinals, bishops and priests attempts to influence our civil laws. That's lobbying. And because these cardinals, bishops and priests have prostrated themselves before this foreign head of state, and pledged feality, haven't they renounced their U.S. citizenship?

Now, call me crazy but it appears that Cardinal Dolan did not in fact call for violence. Instead he calls for Catholics to "PRAY, FAST, SACRIFICE" and "Share the truth in love" about the Catholic teaching on marriage.

I don't remember reading that any violence against individuals was directed or encouraged by Cardinal Dolan, any other Catholic Clergy or teaching.

Maybe you need to read the article this thread is based on then.

The clergy in many countries have been the motivating forces behind the violence there.

I read the article, did you read Cardinal Dolan's insert? Not calling for violence but speaking the truth in love. Prayer, fasting and sacrifice along with being educated regarding the traditional definition of marriage does not equal demands for violence nor the condoning such attack. Catholic teaching directly opposes the violence that occurred in NYC.

Whatever the fringe evangelicals are doing is equivalent to the Westboro Baptist nut cases. Dangerous nutcases who should be opposed at every opportunity. Not Catholic and nothing to do with Catholic teaching or the peaceful message of Cardinal Dolan.

These aren't "fringe" evangelicals behind the violence in Georgia and Russia. This is orthodox Christianity. Dolan may use nice words but it's much like the couple in Paris who saw the demonstrations there. The wife is a Glen Beck Fan. She said "it's nice seeing people protest FOR something instead of protesting against something like most liberals do".

She must have missed all the anti-gay marriage signs in the "Pro Family" rallies that ended with violence between anti-gays groups.
Dolan's "TRUTH" is what you are pushing. Butter it up with herbs and seasonings it's still a call to oppose my civil rights.

So feel free to feel as smug and noble. Blood is on your hands no matter what you and Dolan claim.

He could be ordering his priest to speak against such violence from every pulpit.

It's his "sin of omission".

Exactly. Has anyone heard him quote my favorite Saulian Bible passage? Titus 3:1?

I doubt the poster you replied to has ever attended a mass where that was the message for the day.

Very convenient.

But not surprising. When a religious movement can convince people that only the representatives of that movement can intercede on God's behalf we get Popes, David Koresh and Jim Jones.

I agree.

And also, for more than 100 years, federal law SPECIFICALLY FORBADE the U.S. from having diplomatic relations with The Vatican BECAUSE those diplomatic relations would CLEARLY violate the First Amendment by giving one religion preference over another.

Therefore, shouldn't the laws authorizing our present day formal diplomatic relations with The Vatican be repealed ? Or at least ruled unconstitutional ?

Except it's sophomoric.

As if the US catholic clerics aren't US citizens and as if they are declaring themselves unbound by US law.

Please.
