"If your child does not score at the proficient level or above this is a sign that he/she is having trouble learning the skills and knowledge expected of xxx-grade students and may need additional help."

WHAT?

A child scoring 30% on the 8th grade OAA math test is in trouble, but one scoring 32% is fine?

If you are waiting for the feds to save you, stop, they won't.

It is up to us to set the standard we know is needed to compete in a global economy, if we fail to act we condemn our child to a life that will not be as fruitful as our own.

That would tend to support eliminating pay to play. After all, it wasn't around when we were in school. But so many around here are too selfish to let that happen.

I'm not waiting for the feds to save me. Actually, considering they are the fire department, police department, army, navy, air force, marines, cia, etc., are't we ALL waiting on the feds to save us? We pay for them so aren't they our resources? Sometimes it "takes a village".

Unless you are one of those who wants the right to have a nuclear missile in your back yard, you know in case the government tries to take your guns.

To be truly self-sufficient is impossible. Kaczynski tried, but even he needed the help of the postal service.

"The Bible for Dummies?"

Chapter 24 of this book helps us "Professionals" discover how the traditions surrounding Abraham have contributed to three of the world's major religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. "The Bible for Dummies" helps us see many ways the Bible has impacted popular culture, from Renaissance paintings and sculptures, to great works of literature, to the height of humankind's artistic expression--Hollywood movies!
Okay, while it's true that last statement may not resonate with everyone; but truth is chapter 24 of "The Bible for Dummies" does give a brief rundown of some of the best (and worst) movies about the Bible.
Reading "The Bible for Dummies" can help us understand just how much we really don't know about the Greatest Book on Earth!

Who is to say who is right and who is wrong?

While your challenge to everyone is to prove to you a higher being exists, you have failed to prove one does not exist. You can't have one set of standards for yourself and an entirely different set for everyone else who tends to disagree with you.

In Particle Physics, the Standard Model is a theory of electromagnetic and nuclear interactions. It describes a Universe of matter (fermions) and force (bosons.) It was formed in the 1970s when the existence of tiny particles called quarks were first observed. It has been very successful in explaining much in experimental particle physics; consequently, the Standard Model is sometimes referred to as a theory of almost everything.

But prior to the 1970's, no one had ever "seen" a quark, just as prior to the invention of the microscope no one had ever seen bacteria or viruses for that matter. Not have seen something or lacking the knowledge that somethings exist regardless of your cognizance, does preclude that something's existence.

In actuality humankind's base of knowledge is a multiple times what it was at the founding of this country, but by comparison people in the future will look back at us as living in the dark ages.

Attempting to quell debate on subjects of interest is anathema to the human condition in general.

I am not advocating one group over another, I am merely stating the obvious, yesterday's accepted be all fact is today's debunked piece of the puzzle that was just expanded.

Education should expand horizons, not limit them with orthodoxy of the left or the right.

America's downfall doesn't begin with the "low-information voter." It starts with the no-knowledge student.

For decades, collectivist agitators in our schools have chipped away at academic excellence in the name of fairness, diversity and social justice. "Progressive" reformers denounced Western civilization requirements, the Founding Fathers and the Great Books as racist. They attacked traditional grammar classes as irrelevant in modern life. They deemed ability grouping of students (tracking) bad for self-esteem. They replaced time-tested rote techniques and standard algorithms with fuzzy math, inventive spelling and multicultural claptrap.

Common Core was enabled by Obama's federal stimulus law and his Department of Education's "Race to the Top" gimmickry. The administration bribed cash-starved states into adopting unseen instructional standards as a condition of winning billions of dollars in grants. Even states that lost their bids for Race to the Top money were required to commit to a dumbed-down and amorphous curricular "alignment."

In practice, Common Core's dubious "college- and career"-ready standards undermine local control of education, usurp state autonomy over curricular materials, and foist untested, mediocre and incoherent pedagogical theories on America's schoolchildren.

There's no better illustration of Common Core's duplicitous talk of higher standards than to start with its math "reforms." While Common Core promoters assert their standards are "internationally benchmarked," independent members of the expert panel in charge of validating the standards refute the claim. Panel member Dr. Sandra Stotsky of the University of Arkansas reported, "No material was ever provided to the Validation Committee or to the public on the specific college readiness expectations of other leading nations in mathematics" or other subjects.

In fact, Stanford University professor James Milgram, the only mathematician on the validation panel, concluded that the Common Core math scheme would place American students two years behind their peers in other high-achieving countries. In protest, Milgram refused to sign off on the standards. He's not alone.

Professor Jonathan Goodman of New York University found that the Common Core math standards imposed "significantly lower expectations with respect to algebra and geometry than the published standards of other countries."

Under Common Core, algebra I instruction is pushed to 9th grade, instead of 8th grade, as commonly taught. Division is postponed from 5th to 6th grade. Prime factorization, common denominators, conversions of fractions and decimals, and algebraic manipulation are de-emphasized or eschewed. Traditional Euclidean geometry is replaced with an experimental approach that had not been previously pilot-tested in the U.S.

Ze'ev Wurman, a prominent software architect, electrical engineer and longtime math advisory expert in California and Washington, D.C., points out that Common Core delays proficiency with addition and subtraction until 4th grade and proficiency with basic multiplication until 5th grade, and skimps on logarithms, mathematical induction, parametric equations and trigonometry at the high school level.

Wurman summarizes thusly:

"I believe the Common Core marks the cessation of educational standards improvement in the United States. No state has any reason left to aspire for first-rate standards, as all states will be judged by the same mediocre national benchmark enforced by the federal government. Moreover, there are organizations that have reasons to work for lower and less-demanding standards, specifically teachers unions and professional teacher organizations. While they may not admit it, they have a vested interest in lowering the accountability bar for their members....This will be done in the name of 'critical thinking' and '21st-century' skills, and in faraway Washington, D.C., well beyond the reach of parents and most states and employers."

As a school board candidate, running on the sole agenda of gaining control of the board, because..... he 'feels' the board should put re-emphasis on the value of the educator; Mr. Malone must be prepared to answer questions from voters outside the SEA school community. Our children's first budget winning agenda of our reform minded BOE members is "a-m-a-z-i-n-g-l-y" popular among our community wide households of 10,000 or more. Mr. Malone doesn't have the majority of voters "boxed" into his popularity corner;
he is subject to scrutiny just like he has "scrutinized" others.

The district is going through a lot of internal changes and changes at the state level.... I'm not sure the fit is as good now as when I came to Springboro in 2000....

Really, Mr. Malone, a deal is a deal, and now it really is time for you to go.
Have you thought of using your insane popularity in the community to "challenge" the Athletic Boosters Board President, thus giving up your petty "challenge" to our board president?
