Stand Up For Kids!
Nearly two years ago, the Ohio State Board of Education adopted the Obama administrationís educational program of Common Core only 16 days after it was announced. There was no time for evaluation of the standards by those most closely connected to student learning Ė parents and local teachers.
Now we are seeing the problems inherent in Common Core as a top-down bureaucratic system. Common Coreís one-size-fits-all standards have not sufficiently been proven to work, turning our students into lab rats for federal experimentation. Furthermore, these untested standards are expected to cost Ohio taxpayers multi-millions of dollars to implement at a time when families are already struggling to get by.
And itís not just the costs! Inherent to Common Core is massive intrusive data collection. Additionally, because of the push to standardize many exams, including some that private and homeschool children take, even privately educated students have reason to be concerned.
Every student is unique. Itís simply naÔve for bureaucrats to assume all children and classrooms must fit into the same mold. Instead of all the red tape, schools need to hold teachers accountable for their classrooms and allow parents to choose what institution is best for their child. Parents and teachers, who are daily involved with our children, know what individual students need to succeed and how best to reach the goal of a quality education.
For the good of our students, every concerned Ohio citizen should speak out now on the importance of repealing Common Core standards and returning education decisions to the local level where they belong.

Inquiring Minds are asking WHY taxpayers are footing the bill
to pay big labor costs for union teachers to implement the school superintendent's Pride Survey of intrusive interrogation and invasion of Springboro families privacy and personal behavior.
Many parents are just shrugging this off as something that kids have fun with by filling in answers that will shock the establishment; And what is the VALUE of wasting time and money on that classroom activity? The only purpose of social engineering going on in public schools classrooms is providing busy work for union teachers to get increased pay for leading one more mindless, self-degrading Survey of... Pride?

During this Renewal Levy season and school board election time, Springboro families are hearing lots about our quality classroom education in our elite, affluent, excellent with distinction government schools.
But, inquiring minds are asking:
What constitutes a quality classroom education
and exactly what is the legal responsibility of taxpaying homeowners to provide a quality classroom education? Why are all Springboro taxpaying homeowners being forced to to pay union teachers to lead students into drug use awareness and government schooling of sexual behavior?
#26718 Aug 21, 2013
Please look at the bigger picture. Please stop and think outside the Boro's small box. There are districts all over the state of Ohio where school board members are LEVERAGED into pledging allegiance to OSBA's liberal agenda within days of being sworn in on their boards.
Sometimes meaningful change happens from grassroots efforts. Other times meaningful change is a trickle down effect from a higher level. Many times, for change to truly last, it has to occur from both ends.

sounds like a re-run of the 2008 national elections!
How's that hopey-changey thing working for you?

SOS to Springboro Parents:
Please e-mail or call our Springboro Schools Superintendent and demand that he remove the
2014 Pride Student Drug Use Survey from this year's busy school agenda. Where is the pride in this intrusion and invasion into the personal lives of Springboro students and their families? Where's the RESPECT due Springboro families from the school district's union teachers?
#26721 Aug 21, 2013
Can any of you proficient in math viewers on this blog help us determine how time and money it will cost our classroom teachers to pridefully survey of Springboro student drug use?
Website says registration is due August 26, 2013.
Conduct Survey - September 3, 2013-November 22, 2013. The survey takes 40 minutes to complete
(one classroom time slot)
How many teacher hours and at what pay per hour, times number of students equals how much money invested in this interrogation?
AND WHY IS THIS SURVEY BEING CONDUCTED?
Here's the bottom line: SUSTAINABILITY
In a time of diminishing prevention resources, many school districts have found that DATA can lead to award-winning GRANTS.
(Have any of our parents and school district leaders ever thought of demanding that our students JUST SAY NO as the ONLY resource of PREVENTION?)
#26722 Aug 21, 2013
What have other districts done with their data?
Design prevention initiatives for students: Partner with community organizations to apply for FUNDING related to substance abuse prevention; Inform parents and community members of drug trends and discuss solutions for use;
Change policy in the community in regards to underage drinking; Work with law enforcement to conduct compliance checks;
Work with school staff to IMPLEMENT screening, brief intervention, and Referral to treatment for ALL students.

Did you know that school board candidates Ron Malone and Dave Stuckey running for election on the sole agenda of gaining control of our November renewal levy money to increase pay and benefits packages to the SEA? And the first action that Ron Malone has promised Scott Maney (in exchanged for funding the Malone campaign) is to "re-instate" BOE elected officials under the status quo indoctrination of the Ohio School Boards Associaition. That means as early as next May, Springboro taxpayers could be badgered and bullied into passing a new levy to build up funding for the the SEA contract coming up in just two years.
#26726 Aug 21, 2013
As you may know, Neighbors for Springboro Status Quo's mission is to help our SEA achieve stronger funding, in particular through advocating for the passage of school levies. We would not be doing our job of keeping our children first left behind, if we failed to question the reform-minded board's recent reduction of the the renewal levy.
Deeply embedded in the tunnel vision of the boro small-minded box, we wonder why the board would give both the SEA and the Taxpayers a fair deal, making it a win-win issue for all. Why would the board give us a fair deal, when we believe the SEA could have taken the full 9.2 million for SEA pay increases, and the wealthy taxpaying homeowners would not have minded at all! Who among us wealthy ones does not want to sacrifice our own family's future to make sure we are investing enough money to bribe our union teachers to stay in their classrooms? As Neighbors for Springboro Status Quo, our mission demands that an Emergency levy will be needed down the road, and the bottom line is that Malone/Stuckey/Anderson are RUNNING to gain control of this fiscal responsible BOE majority; and return the Renewal levy money to its rightful owners, re-emphasing the inflated VALUE of the SEA educator, employed in Springboro schools. Run Ron Run!

I don't think that will happen. Can you say skeletons.......SCBA.

If you have received int he mail recently the guide to your child's results on the Ohio Achievement Assessment tests they took this past spring, you may wish to peruse the above link.
In it you will find how to convert the scaled score given to you on the report to the corresponding number your child got correct on the test.
Simply dividing the number correct by the total number of questions on the test will provide you with your child's correct percentage.
Pages 11 - 16
Let us know how your child is progressing in absolute terms, not the graded on a curve scale the state enjoys hiding behind.

If you will remember some time ago, Springboro Parent, Kelly Kohls
spent several hours of her personal time to inform herself at the state level of these errors of the Common Core being pushed on local school districts by big state and federal government leaders. As board president, Kelly Kohls, reported her findings at public board meeting, bringing attention to all school board members to slow down implementation of common core on the local level, because it is now being proven around the nation that only State leaders can opt out of the common core; but where's the outrage from Springboro parents against the STATE for hiding beind this failed federal/mandate of Common Core which takes away local control of our kid's classroom curriculum and school tax dollars?
#26731 Aug 21, 2013
Yes we have all been put into this giant game of chess simply to give the union more power over you and your tax dollars.
No new renewal money for the Malone/Maney hostile takeover in November to gain control of our children's first budget. Why kick the can down the road? In 2014 Malone/Maney will be badgering and bullying for New Money Levy on the ballot for more...more...more of taxpayers money to bribe the SEA union workers to stay in our classrooms.
#26732 Aug 21, 2013
You never know.
#26733 Aug 21, 2013
Does anybody remember some years ago that the Springfield school district leaders were constantly in the news complaining that voters would not pass tax increases and the state was going to take over? Wonder exactly what happens when the state takes over? All Ima Saying is that Now the school district is doing great
and Springboro Parents are now complaining that Boro should do like Springfield and just do away with pay to play sports fees.
So how do taxpayers meet these Boro-wealthy parents' demands for the same level of service that Springfield affords? Could the first step be the failure of the November renewal levy?
