They deserve every bit of party they feel like for at least a MONTH !!!

It may just have been because their votes got counted sooner, but they were FIRST !

A very misleading title.

While some individual Republicans undoubtedly voted for equality, helping to tip the scales, the heavy lifting moving us toward equality was done by Democrats.

The Republican party still contains anti-gay platforms including annulment of all same sex marriages by writing prejudice and discrimination into the constitution, and bringing back DADT. The Republican party has a long way to go before it can be considered even neutral, let alone supportive of equal rights for gay people.

Agreed, but I think the real point of the article was directed at the GOP leadership who still thinks marriage equality can rally their base to victory.

I think many in the GOP will quietly start to back away from opposing marriage equality. Granted, I don't expect them to come out in support per se, but just not as much vocal opposition.

I wish they would hurry up.

We always see a few like Megan and Cindy McCain, the Chaneys, etc. all the way back to Barry Goldwater. But as long as the platform still contains those anti-gay promotions of prejudice, anyone who is paying attention will see the party as an obstruction to equality. Those ugly stains will have to be removed before they can become stealth candidates.

It can help to use basketball or volleyball as a metaphor.

For example, the recent Colorado court decision was part of a passing setup for the shooter, in this instance as an advisory reasoning for the SCOTUS. Their way of getting their arguments into Case records so they may be referenced in the upcoming SCOTUS cases.

We're only seen the beginnings of this.

I agree with you 100% on this, but we have to remember that those ignorance-based platforms *DO* speak to a very large group of Americans even today. We are truly surrounded by idiots that cling to their ignorance, even if the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Odd but I don't recall that we elect our presidents based on Popular votes.

But thank you for being such a good example of the ignorance and stupidity so prevalent today.

Yes. I believ that is why prejudice and discrimination remain in the party platform, and as you know, they are even more restrictive in a few of the state republican party platforms.
