People who wonder why the seat of government in Bossier Parish is in Benton and not in Bossier City, 12 miles to the south, right on Interstate 20 and with a population of 61,315, should just count their blessings.

The court house was moved from Bellvue to Benton in the middle of the night many years before there was a Bossier city. Barksdale was put in place in 1932. At that time Bossier city had only one full time service station. After Barksdale the town began to grow.
