The Bible and Perversion

Leviticus 18:23 "'You shall not lie with any animal to defile yourself with it; neither shall any woman give herself to an animal, to lie down with it: it is a perversion.(WEB JPS NAS RSV NIV)

Leviticus 18: 23; Neither shalt thou lie
with any beast to defile
thyself therewith: neither
shall any woman stand
before a beast to lie down
thereto: it [is] confusion [decadence (thbl)]. http://www.scripture4all.org/OnlineInterlinea...

Notice that the word confusion in modern translation is often translated, perversion. What is the confusion. Better adressesed with the word, abomination defined in Leviticus 20: 25,26;

“You shall therefore make a distinction between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean bird and the clean; you shall not bring abomination on yourselves by animal or by bird or by anything with which the ground teems, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean. You shall be holy to me; for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples to be mine.”

A few words stand out in 25, 26: distinction; abomination; set apart; holy; separated. Here we find that abomination is associated with what is clean and unclean. This distinction is set against the people, Caananites/Egyptians. The holiness, what stands out, what is connected. Sacred is about what is whole. Sacredness is associated with the Holy.

“for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples to be mine.”
Paraphrased:
For I the Lord, make you stand out so that you are associated with me.
These two verses are about Idolatry and Sacredness. God's people separated from idolatry and the people establish Israel as sacred, a religion of the people of God. Sacred and Holy.

Leviticus 20:12 "'If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have committed a perversion; their blood shall be upon them.(WEB NIV)

And if a man lie with his
daughter in law, both of
them shall surely be put to
death: they have wrought
confusion [decadence (thbl)]; their blood [shall
be] upon them. http://www.scripture4all.org/OnlineInterlinea...

Psalms 5:9 For there is no certainty in their mouth; their inward part is perversion, their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.(DBY)

For [there is] no
faithfulness in their mouth;
their inward part [is] very
wickedness [dealing-slickly (ichliqu·n)]; their throat [is]
an open sepulchre; they
flatter with their tongue. http://www.scripture4all.org/OnlineInterlinea...

“5,10: An open grave: while they feign words of friendship, their hidden thoughts, the words in their throat, i.e., in their heart, are murderous, ready to swallow up men to death. Cf Jer 5, 16.” NAB1971, p. 595.

What is interesting is the above post on "The Bible and Perversion" and a comparison to what the Ten Commandments are about.

"The simplification of these passages on perversion shows what a perversion is all about, confusion; deceit; stealing from the helpless; misery; idolatry. Perversion is not about sex but it is an act of rage. It is about revenge. About taking something away from another. It is the anti-thesis of love; love your neighbor."

Sounds like the Ten Commandments, doesn't it?

Which is it? Covet or steal? Lust or stealing? Perversion or; deceit; stealing; idolatry or, is it the anti-thesis of love?

Five Mistakes in Your Bible Translation

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-joel-hoffman...

"The tenth Commandment, commonly but wrongly translated as "thou shalt not covet," illustrates how internal structure or etymology can be misleading. Like the English "host" and "hostile" that share a root but don't mean the same thing, the words for "desirable" and "take" in Hebrew come from the same root. It's the second word, "take," that appears in the Ten Commandments. But translators, not recognizing that related words can mean different things in this way, misunderstood the Hebrew and wrongly translated the text as "thou shalt not covet" for what should have been "thou shalt not take." (Learn more: "Thou shalt not covet?")"

1. I probably know the Bible much better than you.

2. What's wrong with going to church on Sunday?

3. What's perverted about living a committed, loving relationship with the person you love?

To paraphrase a current political figure - "What difference does it make?".
The Bible? A collection of ancient mythologies. That's it. Except for some parallels to modern society, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not murder, etc., the Bible is a fiction, with all it's so-called miracles and miraculous manifestations. One has to be delusional to predicate one's life on the ancient texts of a group of nomadic tribesmen from 4000 years ago. One is free to do so, to believe what one wishes, but really? And it's veracity is still being debated - probably from a revision, of a revision, of a revised version, that was translated from, a translation of..., oh well, you get the idea. This is a never ending debate, which has no end, or more to the point, no resolution.
Five thousand years from now, biblical scholars will probably be debating the religious and social ramifications of the Sears catalog. That's how far we will have advanced, but I certainly hope I'm wrong.

Silly blonde.

All around the world today, billions of Christians sought to make themselves better. Sacrificed their time, talent and resources to help those less fortunate. All because of the inspiration they found in the Bible.

And you diss that?

I diss the Catholic Church, as well as all religion. People can kind, generous, and neighborly all on their own, without resorting to the Bible - or anything else. The Bible that codifies racism, slavery, bigotry, and a host of other ills humanity could well do without. Being humane is what defines us as humans - not what book we follow. Being gracious and tolerant of one another is something the religious believers of this earth have long forgotten or ignored as they attempt to coerce one to believe as they do. Mother Theresa is considered a saint by many. There is movement in the Catholic Church to have that title formalized. For all her supposed good, she is a fraud. The people she supposedly ministered to saw virtually none of the hundreds of millions of dollars she was given. The squalor was never alleviated. The sick were not made whole. Where did the money go? The Vatican Bank? Somewhere else? She wasn't a saint. She was a shill for the Church - no better than an American televangelist. Reading the Bible does not give one humanity. If anything, it's an excuse for license.

And yet, no other belief system does what Christianity does.

Care to validate your judgment of Mother Teresa?

Are you talking about Billy Graham?

You are a hateful, ignorant bigot.

I am not a hateful, ignorant bigot.
But many so-called Christians are.
You have nothing to refute what I say, except for name-calling and innuendo, and selective cherry-picking to criticize what I say.
I have the evidence of history. Care to refute that?
Religion has and continues to be the greatest con job ever pulled on humanity. The Catholic Church is absolutely one of the most evil institutions on the planet. Their history is written in blood, as much as any despotic regime, including the Nazis. The evil men do, lives long after the perpetrators are dead and gone.
By the way, Al Capone ran soup kitchens in Chicago, during the Great Depression. Do those "good deeds" mitigate all of his other transgressions against his fellow man? By your accounting, it does.

His religion is just a front to steal money - as well as other men's wives. Plenty of unbelievers and atheists are more honest.

I believe this is the same woman who has been posting in this thread all kinds of anti-gay nonsense, accusing everyone of molesting children. You may want to keep a copy of the article and if she starts posting insults again just answer her with the article. She'll deny she is one and the same, but you know how the religious lie. Next time she posts I''ll reply to her as Lisa. Here it is again:
Anti-Gay Activist Lisa Biron Found Guilty of Child Pornography After Video Taping Daughter
By Ashley Davis, Fri, January 11, 2013
Lisa Biron, a New Hampshire lawyer who worked with an anti-gay Christian-right organization, has been found guilty of child pornography after she videotaped her own daughter having sex with two men on several occasions.
According to Salon, Biron, 43, is facing a minimum sentence of 25 years after she was convicted by a jury on Thursday. It took the jury less than an hour to deliberate.
In November, Biron was arrested by the FBI and accused of eight felony counts after she videotaped a 14-year-old girl having sex with men. Later, the girl was identified as Biron's daughter.
Biron also videotaped herself having sex with her daughter.
On Biron's Facebook page, she claims the Bible is her favorite book and that she worked for Alliance Defending Freedom.
Alliance Defending Freedom is a "servant ministry" seeking to transform the legal system "for religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and marriage and family."
The group is blatantly anti-gay, and issues "dire warnings" about "the homosexual agenda," particularly in their book, authored by president Alan Sears an senior director Craig Osten.
In the book, they explain that the "homosexual agenda" will destroy religious liberty and free speech. One chapter claims that pedophilia on college campuses is a result of homosexuality, and that homosexuality and pedophilia are linked.
As Biron's case broke out and she was arrested, ADF removed all traces of her from their website and Facebook page. They even clamed in a "CBS News" report that Biron never worked for them.
According to an LGBT blog called Joe.My.God, ADF is continuing to remove her name from their site and Facebook, and is deleting any mention of her name by users on their page.
While it is true that Biron might not have been a formal employee of ADF, she did participate and was a member in their "Honor Corps," according to John Aravosis at Americablog.
The Honor Corps is a group that recognizes allied attorneys who participate in 450 hours of pro bono services for the group. Those who become members receive ADF perks, like referrals, job opportunities, and access to resume postings.
In March of 2011, she was listed by the ADF as an "Allied Attorney Success Story."
Do you really think that was her? Full on!!!

I want to be sick now.
