If there's an iota of sanity left in the world this kind of bill will be laid to rest even before it's dead .. There's no excuse for such barbarities anymore ( if ever ) .

WOW! The Kansas legislature put the brakes on fast!
.
They probably saw the negative public reaction on TV and ditched their cave man image as quick as they could

I wonder if the motive was monetary. The nanosecond this became law, it would prompt lawsuits. They'd be filed the next day.

Then Kansas would have to spend tons of money.

These thoughts crossed my mind.

I emailed the Democratic minority leaders in the Indiana House & Senate with your idea about reinstating the civil unions ban to the legislation if it comes up for a vote next year.

Sadly I didn't get anything but an automated response thanking me for my input.

Bigots don't usually give a damn if their actions cost millions or billions in taxpayers' money. In fact, many of them thrive on the tribulations their actions cause because, to them, it's proof positive that what they're doing it RIGHT!

The Bible tells them that not everyone will accept the word of god and they should expect to be ridiculed and face retribution for their beliefs. So, to them, anything they do that makes other people really angry must be blessed by god.

It's a very immature and naive way of thinking, but then, fundamentalism and bigotry always are.

Actually, GREAT point. And it clarified to me that I meant the motive for dropping this may have been monetary *from the saner minds who prevailed*.

From very early on in these forums, I espoused that philosophy nonstop: that getting extremist can cause saner minds to prevail. Here's a GREAT example of what I'm talking about.

What you say about their philosophy is spot-on, too. That's why I am so incredibly cold and brutal about batting aside every word that comes from them *as fast as they can produce them*; it's meaningless babble and vomit. Why, more specifically? Because the philosophy into which they have been indoctrinated teaches them that they're right NO MATTER WHAT, and teaches them over and over, "Look! Everywhere you turn, you will see evidence, no matter the outcome, that YOU are RIGHT!" They're literally brainwashed into thinking that *any and every course of events* proves they were correct.

There's no communication. There's no discussion. There's no argument. And so I return the favor and *literally don't even hear them* when they speak. It's MUCH more evident in person; online, it doesn't communicate quite so well. But knowing that they've been brainwashed in such a horrific way, I behave identically in kind and will have zero to do with them.

Yep! They've set up self-fulfilling prophecies at every corner.

When good things happen to them, God is blessing them.
When good things happen to someone else, it's because God loves everyone, despite other people being horrible and evil.
When bad things happen to someone else, it's because that same loving God is now angry at them and is taking his retribution out on them, despite loving everyone.
When bad things happen to them, well, we don't always understand why God does these things, but we're still good because good things happen to us, too.

They've simply set themselves up so that ANYTHING they want, God wants, too. And anything they DON'T want, conveniently, God hates that, too.

Nice work if you can get it, huh? But it's still shockingly naive and self-defeating. You never learn or grow if you don't face life's challenges as what they are--challenges.

And many of the bigots make their living from these costly law suits and campaigns. How do you think George Rekers could afford all that luggage? From witness fees from homophobic defendants. And no amount of taxpayer money is too much if a politician can use it to get out supporters.

Yeah, sorry about that. It was actually NHJeff who suggested it as a strategy to continue to delay any ballot vote on the issue.

I think the few moderate intelligent Republicans in Indiana are just looking for a way out of this while saving face with their fundy base.

Nope! "hi hi" is absolutely on the right side of both history and fairness.

It's you and people like you that will be the laughing stock of future historians.

Have you heard George Wallace's 1963 gubernatorial inauguration speech where he declared, "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever"??? That was just a little over a year before the Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law, effectively ending government sanctioned segregation. Oops!

In another few years, people like you will be looked back on with the same pitty and laughter as Wallace and his Klan are today and people will wonder about you, just as they wonder about Wallace, "How could they have been SO out-of-touch with reality? How could they be so consumed with hate by things that don't matter?"
