"Gay rights are threatening religious liberty." This statement, while a touch extreme, is, no less, a common sentiment among political conservatives in the United States.

Religious groups do not have the right to expect their particular rules to be imposed on secular society including nonbelievers.

In other words, their right to freely swing their fists around ends where it might come in contact with someone else's body.

It's also always bothered me when homophobes claim religious liberty is threatened when their very stance denies gay-positive religious groups their right to perform legal same-sex marriages.

Religious liberty means that each religious group can choose to celebrate or abstain from whatever activity (including legal same-sex marriages) that they choose.

That's the exact same thing I think when I read someone on here who is too cowardly to use one name or register on Topix.

Homophobes have been claiming that society would collapse if gay rights were enshrined in law yet those claims, again and again, prove to be utter crap.

There are more and more places in the world that have equal legal rights for LGBT people, including full recognition of same-sex marriages. In Canada, for instance, same-sex marriage has been legal across the whole country since 2003. And Canadian society is doing just fine, thank you very much.

Back when slavery was abolished in the USA those who opposed equal rights for non-whites claimed that society would crumble. That was over a hundred years ago and the USA is still surviving and has actually thrived since those horrible days of slave-owning.

Today's homophobes are no different from the pro-slavery types back in Lincoln's day. It's probably fair to say that today's homophobes are worse -- they should definitely know better!

If you threw your decency; morality; family values and sense of right and wrong out the window because of gay people; you are a homophobic nincompoop
.
We the People of the Gay Master Race do not affect your decency; morality; family values; and sense of right and wrong; and you need to leave ours alone in return; hon

HAHAHA, you talk like a thug who thinks he can give orders over the internet. Is that all you've got? What are you, 8? Why didn't you call him a poopy-head while you were at it?

Ah, the dumbing-down of America. Making a cogent, rational reply is no longer necessary. Just sling insults, and pretend that you're relevent. Sorry that 17th-century historical quotes about freedom go over your head. Maybe they'll cover that for you when you get to middle school.

I've never understood that one. I suppose that "religious liberty" only applies when it is YOUR denomination that gets to decide it's definition.
