Marriage equality strengthens freedom of religion as those religions that support same-sex couples will finally be able to perform legal marriages just like they can already perform legal marriages for heterosexual couples.

Marriage equality does not harm freedom of religion at all any more than legal divorce harms freedom of religion. Religions that don't approve of divorce are not forced to acknowledge them, and religions that don't approve of same-sex couples will not be forced to marry them. To claim otherwise is disingenuous.

Who cares whether some fairytale beliefs are affected? Keep your insanity inside your church walls and you'll be fine.

The game plan of the anti Same sex marriage crowd is to claim victim status. Ben Boychuk's section on the "tragedy" that Christians have to follow the same public laws as everyone else is pretty clear.

He wants special rights.

Then there is the fact that all these "horrors" he decries are not any different than a racist complaining his religious freedom is being compromised because he's not allowed to discriminate against people because of their race.

Joel Mathis's section is well written and spot on.

If "freedom of religion" only means freedom to harm others based on ignorance, then the answer is yes to the question.

And that would be a good thing.

But most of us believe that the term means a bit more than that.
