Can we pull these idiots' tax exemption yet? This is an overtly political act by a major representative of a religious body.

vatican cultists that want to engage in politics should be taxed! They have been given a free ride for too long! The bishop sounds like a real moron!

He cannot have a party affiliation?

I don't recall your vexation on this subsequent to reportage of Sr. Simone Campbell speaking at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in support of the Affordable Care Act.

The Bishop was asked to speak to a local political group.

She spoke at the DNC directly against Republican budget proposals.

I think more people heard the nun.

Did you take the same stance when 22 religious organizations, amongst them Catholics for Choice, Episcopal Divinity School, Jewish Women International, Methodist Federation for Social Action, Muslims for Progressive Values, the Planned Parenthood Clergy Advisory Board,
endorsed Obama on contraception?

Of course not.

It's only problematic when anyone opposes abortion or state provision of contraception.

Then, and only then, they should be silenced.

Did any of them declare themselves democrats? THAT'S the issue. Contraception isn't a democrat-only issue; many republicans favor it too.

I didn't hear her do it on the playback of her remarks to the DNC.

Maybe she was one of a long list of speakers at the DNC who didn't identify as Democrats, yet felt compelled to make speeches advocating various DNC planks and criticizing RNC planks, as the nun did.

Since caring for the poor is often the central duty of many orders, she may well be in favor of healthcare legislation. She may well equally oppose the dems' support of abortion rights.

She was asked a direct question about whether abortion should be illegal.

Her response?

"Thatís beyond my pay grade. I donít know."

She declared the Romney-Ryan budget "horrifying", but was relatively agnostic on abortion.
