Allentown bar Cannons plans to reopen next week
The exterior of 448 N. Ninth St. is the same: nondescript, with an easy-to-miss entrance.

There's the Cityline Construction sign on the door, one of P3's favorite campaign donors.

Will it be the same chef, Kevin Curry?- and I do mean chef, not cook. He was FANTASTIC!!!!!

This must mean Mananas is getting a new Manager, that is good.

CARD GAMES? Usually gambling of some sort comes along with that, no??
"The menu is still being developed, but it'll be a mix of Latin, African and American food." "Tembo has a degree in hotel and restaurant management from Kutztown University and is currently the manager of Johnny Mañana's on Hamilton Street." Figures! Latin food & African food (can't forget that!) along w/ managing Johnny Manana's ~ leaves a lot to be desired. Only a matter of time to hear there is yet another tragic incident that happens in that area; but Good Luck in your reopening. Aye Aye Aye....I could say much more, but I'll let it go. |

I am soooo excited! i can't wait! They had the best food ever! Hopefully, security can keep everything under control so the "people" who ruined it before will not have the chance to do it again.

We need more local pubs. We do NOT need more pubs in suburbia where EVERYONE must drive to it.
We need more locally-owned pubs, not chain establishments owned by some far away corporation. |
Kevin is the chef(yeah chef) at the Liberty Street Tavern on 23rd and Liberty. Some of the old menu items are back but, check out .50$ Pizza Slices on Wed. See you there. |

Is It Still Going To Be A Gay Bar??
I Hope Not I Would Like To Check It Out. That Area Needs A good Clean Establishment. |

If we call it Cannon's, it is Cannon's - and Allentown, therefore, never suffered the loss and the naysayers and quitters and losers were wrong about the neighborhood and the Cannon's closed for reasons other than safety and they were just over-reacting and Allentown is good and pure and Allentown is known for being awarded top 20 dives in America and Ed Pawlowski is a hero!

It never was a gay bar. It was a local corner dive with lively, colorful, intellectual, and goofy people. It was a fun place with great food. The regulars were long time regulars always willing to meet new comers. Hopefully this is good. Hopefully those longing for the chess game and chat will come back and gather. Although I would not call it "the reopening of Cannon's". Not yet. Good luck, I know the place has been missed. |

while parking was a premium, i thought the entire ambiance was really cool. i was happy a bar that attempted to provide good food and cater to a better crowd popped up in that area. sure beats the republican club, or the red barn, or the pioneer club, or--well you get the point.

I was a regular from '89 till the end. If it opens next week, I'll be there Saturday night. I don't have my hopes up, but I'll give it a shot. It's odd to me that someone wants to re-create something they weren't a part of, but we'll see. I'd like to see them reach back for, say, Tom Walz to open the place.

... Tom Walz as the musical entertainment is what I meant there.

Cannon's was great and yes, it had an outstanding beer collection, outstanding food, and outstanding people of all kinds. It was a mini North Beach all in one place in Allentown.
I would go over anytime my friend Andy Mowerer would play there back in the mid to late 1990s. If they want it to be successful, the trick is 1) outstanding food, 2) beer selections that no one else has, 3) Good local music. From the business model description they want to put in place, it will take all of 3 months for it to become a dive. |

Remember the old Cannons after parties? Everybody would desperately hoverc around the bar for their last call fix and then somebody would say, "Im having a party at my house. "Buy six packs and come on over". A good number of people would accept the offer and we would talk bs until 5 in the morning at which time everybody would go to a diner and order breakfast. Those were the days! I hear Natalie Merchant singing in my head.

Hopefully, the Cannons legends will return. Rev, Matt, Mike, and the former "Rookie" Steve. That's just to a few.

I hope that same chick isn't running the joint again. She can be a nasty drunk. I hope that same chef is back too. The food was outstanding for a small dive bar in a crappy part of town.

Here is a memo to a small man with glasses, tinted reddish hair, and paisley shirts. You know who you are. We have not spoken in years. Come back to Cannons next week.
