Sep 2, 2012 Full story: Toledo Blade 59

Say "soul food" and most people imagine a spread of barbecued ribs, fried chicken and pork chops, ham, black-eyed peas and green beans with ham hocks, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and a delectable list of desserts.

The stereotype of blacks is that we all love fried chicken. I hate most forms of chicken save General Tsos or Sesame Chicken. I do love watermelon though.

Funny I like both. Strangely I find the Golden Chick chain has the best fried chicken, fries and unsweet tea in the world. Calorie count say we'll go there this week or just bring it home and nom.

I got no problem with black men being vegetarians. As long as they don't give up the dark meat!

Im was a vegeterian, and it made me sleepy as hell, but your body stays ripped, as long as you work out, but you will loose a lot of weight, or many do. I do not eat friend foods like that, its unhealthy, and I have acid reflux, and I dont like throwing up everywhere, because of grease, or spicy food, but I do love spicy food. I dont eat dairy like that as well. High amounts of protein, and dairy, will make you fat. I use to be raw as well, and that makes you sleep too, or me.

You just have poor health! I drink milk everyday!

I don't have HB pressure, diabetes Type 1 and all the other BS that are typical of black males with poor health!

A good portion of Black males are IMPOTENT because of your poor health!

Which is another reason 1/2 of black women who deal with Black men over 40 say they can't perform due to bad health! lmao

These men have a fast turnover in women

I'm a little baffled.. Are you still a vegetarian? If so, maybe you aren't eating enough food, of enough of the right food!! Maybe you need to eat more protein.. A lot of people who eat veggie diets, eat loads of starch and processed carbs.. They are easily burnt from your body, and leave you feeling hungry.. Try to add more nuts to you diet and certain pulses, and if you eat fish, certain fish too..

Interestingly, the practice of deep-frying chicken did in fact come from W Africa. They used (and still do) a different species of fowl, however, the Guinea hen. Well, I'm not black but good fried chicken with the proper herbs and all... yum.

Have you heard Dave Chapelle talking about this? He says, Damn! I thought I loved chicken because it's delicious, now I find out I'm genetically programmed to love it!

Watermelon also is from W Africa, one of a whole crop complex domesticated in the Sahel and tropical Africa. Watermelon has medicinal uses; in Mexico where it is called “sandía”, its juice is used to cure sick stomachs.

Using FOOD to insult ethnic groups is SO f'ing stupid! Look in here, they think I'm Mexican so I'm called “burrito” all the time... well the last burrito I had was really good, so I'm just not getting the point here, I think.

Lactose intolerance exists in people who did not have cattle and drink their milk. Those with cattle had the lactose-tolerant gene spread in their populations.

In India there is lactose intolerance, but they process the milk into yoghurt or ghee, which eliminates the problem.

I have always thought that various human groups have evolved to eat the food they had in their respective regions, and should stick with it. One thing everyone ate in traditional cuisines was a lot of herbs. Herbs have a lot of good medicine in them, and eliminating them from the diet is not good.

Once one studies W African cuisine, one finds quickly that it was very complex and included a lot of elements AA's are not eating today here in the USA.

The coolest thing I can think of would be a farm which produced the crops of various areas, to be able to provide the basis for ethnic cuisine. That would be great for the health-conscious people in the USA, plus for those just interested in cuisine for its own sake.

A friend of mine once sent me some pepper and okra seeds from Kano, Nigeria, and they were very interesting... varieties we don't see here. I would love to have a good collection of seeds like that from all over the world...

MAJORITY Humans are lactose intolerant but NOT all Humans live in the same environment. Cow Milk simply wasn't meant for Human consumption. It's milk that was designed for cows only. When animal based milk is substitute planet based milk, we have no digestive issues.

True.. On a lot of things that you've said..Herbs are good..I use a lot of cooking herbs for pain relief etc... They do work especially, thyme/rosemary/sage/parsley(Wa ter retention)... West African soups and stews are very varied... Its impossible to collect and count down how many recipes as they differ from country to country..

http://www.allnigerianrecipes.com/soups/edika... ,

Just like Jamaican food..Many people are so ignorant, that they just think we live on Jerk Chicken,Curried Goat, and Rice and Peas... Unless they are adventurous, many non-black people, just go for the same foods that have been made popular.. The Island has so many variations of recipes made popular over in the west, and of those that need to be exposed..There are chefs, good ones who create dishes using their skill and ingenuity..

I use almond and coconut milk. I find cow milk to be somewhat disgusting, though I like cheese...

The majority are lactose intolerant because they didn't have a diet based on cattle. The cattle people began in the steppes mostly, mostly Aryans.

What bothers me most about all this cattle is production for meat, such as in the USA, which consumes far more resources than equivalent vegetable-grain food, is an environmental disaster, really. Plus to produce it en masse they require massive feedlots where the cows are fed all manner of antibiotics and hormones. The whole thing is a nasty business.

That's because you are drinking store bought milk. It's what they've done to the it.

You should try milk that is full-fat, unprocessed, and from pasture-fed animals. We can get it locally here one of the advantages of living in the Midwest I guess.Lots of range fed meats and pesticide free veggies and fruits here as well.
When this milk goes bad in your refrigerator it will smell like cheese.
I wondered why I never had an upset stomach consuming milk in other countries and now I know why.

No it's the 'sugar' that is naturally found in Cow Milk.
