Are you all aware that there are veterans in the system who are being denied life saving diagnosis and therefore treatment by doctors and administrators in the VA system?

I was under the impression that their jobs were to prolong and enhance the lives of the veteran.

By denying access to competent specialists, they themselves are sentencing the veterans to death.

If you are a veteran and are depending on the VA system to asist you, you may be deadly wrong.

You may have survived combat in a foreign war but you probably won't be helped by the VA docs and system.

Well if it was not for the Veterans Affairs and Veterans Hospital I would not be here today! I have used the VA health care since 1980's and have had bypass surgery and many other health problems take care of by the VA and ALL my Meds are from the VA - I can say they take very good care of me and when I need to see my doctors I get an appointment and see them! I have used the VA hospitals in San Antonio Texas and Oklahoma VA in Oklahoma City and never any problems with care.
If someone is not getting care they can go and file a complant as said VA Hospital there is help there for ALL Veterans of ALL wars!
I have even myself sent vets to see the VA and to sign up and get help and health care so I know it works and I know if you have your DD214 you will get a card and get care the same day!

If YOU are not getting care there is a reason WHY?
Your not telling or ????
VA might be slow on getting a claim to you but for medical care they will act NOW if I said IF your a veteran and have your paper work to show them you are!

This article shows how well the veterans are taken care of by the VA. Everyone should be outraged.

I hope every teen reads these true stories before signing up for the military.

My husband was denied any benefits for over 50 years after serving honorably in combat.

He had to fight the foreign enemy as a healthy teen, become diabled for life, then he had to fight his own govt's bureacracy of lies and bs as a disabled person.

Al Queda promisis to take care of their soldiers and families too.
The soldiers are promised a number of virgins after death and US vets are promised top notch health care. My spouse got no care for 50 years
What 's the difference?

And if you think it is bad while you are still walking...

Wait until you see the severely substandard care afforded to you the Vet in their contract nursing homes!

Lay in urine and fecal matter overnight with soaked sheets and bed because the facilty says they can't afford more help.
They contract with the most substandard facilities then call it top notch care.

If parents did this to their children, they would be arrested and imprisoned in the US

The VA does this to their vets and call it good care.

I'm a 58 year old Vietnam combat vet with a 50% service connected disability for diabetes related to Agent Orange exposure. I'm a Latino and have been to VA care centers in several states. My experience is that the level of care you receive depends very much on the VA location you go to and the staff there. I'm originally from NYC and the Manhattan VA there that serves vets from several surounding states and cannot possibly attend all the vets properly. Plus it has a lot of foreign doctor and nurse residents that have substandard training and respect for US vets. I went there for emergency triage, was told to go home because nothing was wrong with me, then collapsed into a two week diabetic coma from their incompetence and unconcern. In fact, my family told me when they came looking for me the following day, I was found naked on a table in an empty storeroom without any identification or treatment, left to die by the VA staff until my family, which includes lawyers and a NYS Supreme Court Judge, made it clear a huge lawsuit would be pending if I was not treated properly. However, in other locations where there are fewer vets to take care of, particularly Las Vegas, where I have finally retired to, the care is excellent, generous, respectful and even goes far beyond medical care to housing and vocational rehabilitation assistance. Plus the staff has far fewer foreigners which do have a very different attitude toward vets since many of them served, or have family members that served in the military. If your VA clinic is not treating you the way you should be treated, try going to another one that is less crowded and better staffed. It may be longer travel, but definitely worth your health.
Thanks

First I'll admit that I didn't read all of the comments.
However, I agree with the vet brothers that have experienced negative health care from certain v.a. facilities. And I'll add that not only does it depend on the facility, but who you are and what public opinions you've voiced about the various treatments vets receive from the v.a. and the Dept. of Veterans Affairs.
Being the former Board Chairman of a national vets organization. Not only have I been targeted by v.a. staff and doctors. But through these resources
they have hampered private medical services. And in 2002 after two weeks in a v.a. hospital, while leaving the intensive care unit and being assigned to a regular bed. An intensive care nurse told me to thank one of the other nurses in the unit foer protecting me?
Why would I need protection from anyone or thing while in a hospital? Wise up those of you who do not think that for some of us these facilities are as dangerous as "Nam"!
And if you think that's not true. Why after forty years many vets still don't receive disability compensation for injuries or illnesses for their tours of duty. You that claim that they saved your life. Why was it in jeopardy in the first place? What was you illness? Read the list of illnesses on the Federal Register and think about what you have? And understand that we are all test subjects for whatever ails you? "Sleepy"

I get my care at the VA and at different ones over the years and ALL has been good for me and like Ken if I did not get the care I would not be here!
I am also 80% disabled and at times the VA can be slow but over all I can't give them a nasty grade!
I hear talk at the VA of veterans who come daily and bitch about there care or how much money they get and wont but some bitch to just bitch I did all my own paper work for all my claims and yes they all went through but one and I did have to refile and send in more proof but in the long run if it was not for the VA most would not be here today!
Some go to the VA but bitch about each Dr or Hospital they go to but still go!
If you do not like the care do not go! if you do not like the VA end going or getting any thing from them!
Why come here and bitch? Some wont the help and news here and if your unhappy then get over it and go to the VA and tell them what they are doing wrong to YOU! There is more happy to have the va then not! Some of you need to grow up and get a life or at least rethink what your saying and nothing to back it up cause if you did you would be at the VA with the proof and fix the problems YOU have!

Expressing the truth is one's First Amendment Right- a right they fought for

Going to a VA and getting excellent care is also a right they have
They fought like hell now the VA must fight or them

I can tell you that it does matter where. In AL The care sucks. I am a rape victim, the VA fought me toothand nail, I had to Get Bobby Bright to get the care I needed. So, now I get treatment, my rape trauma conselor had to fight for me to get tests for TBI, MRI and EEG to prove that I was raped. SO This crap that the VA cares about females and rape victims and wants to compensates them is a load of bull. It depends a lot. I was diagnosed with TBI, Elipsey from my rape and my claim is still in Montgomery and they have not done anything with it since June last year. My Grandfather was WW2 Vet and served in 5 of the major fields and did not get his benefits till he was 45. So I know at least 19 years passed before he got anything. So do not give me that crap. He was in GA. If you look on the map, GA,AL,SC are a distrcit together and they suck. They treat vets like crap and give no benefits. SCREW THE VA!

IF I said IF the care in NO good do as others have done and call write to the VA - They even have a fourm to fill out with problems! The VA even has a phone line to talk about care and problems. There is always two sides to a story and here we only get one YOURS! If the care or delays are so bad then go to the right place and let them know about your being wronged!
I did and got all fixed and I am sure you can also!
Getting upset here does nothing and nothing gets fixed.... If your unhappy take your problems to the Veterans Affairs as many do.
Sorry your so upset and live in such a pissed off life

My husband was denied any benefits at all from Iwo Jima through 2001 even though he lost his hearing there at Iwo. No health care...no compensation...nothing...no hearing aids...no education. C

Denied that he lost his hearing there because he was in the Motor Transport Unit. What did they think he was doing, driving a truck around while thousands were bein killed?

One of the things he was doing with a srgt who rabbed him was hauling mortar shells from the bombed beach up to the weapons where they were needed. He said he was very lucky to even be alive but kept on doing whatever he was ordered non stop until they rested then the Japanese were comin out of the underground caves and killing the Marines at night.

The VA system was adversarial and confusing for a deaf man...and they always said no.

Do you know that if one needs a nursing home they put you in the worst rated homes around in anyone they choose nomatter how far away from family?

Don't wait until you need a home to fight this terrible system! You will be nelected, abused, treated like a piece of meat. You will also be denied life saving specialist physicians.

Trust me...I know.

You guys from Oklohoma city are not reading correct. I am also fighting for other veterans. I have read about other VA systems. The one in OK seems to be doing their job. I am not knocking the whole VA system, just the one down here. I have seen and listened to other vets that have come from OK, Texas and they are getting treatment. I am not as angry as you might think. I am pissed because the people that are running these offices think they are spending their money, and its not. I know this because I went to college with my GI Bill for Accounting and took Government Accounting and know what they are doing. Some of you all have said that if you do nto like the treatment go somewhere else. Its not that easy. The seizure meds I am on cost over 500 a month, I have 2 kids and because the seizures are not under control yet i still can nto drive. Its the law. If I hurt someone else I can go to prison and cost my neurologist their license and possible prision time as well. For those of you who have a TBI, a seizure disorder or elipsey is very common. So you know what I am saying. We should nto have to fight like a dog for this, we already earned it in war with our lives. I am still trying to figure out how the VA Hospital can treat you for these conditions that are realted to services but veterans I am talking to are still denied benefits for these conditions. So, be smart ass if you want. Just use your brain and think. I am glad that OK city it doing its job. I am moving there and hoping that I do not have to put up with the crap I did here in Alabama. You all have said write and say something. I did, but the point is it should not be this way. Yes some vets abuse the system, but do we all have to pay for it? Just do your own research and talk to other vets. That is all I am saying. One voice put together with others can make a difference.

Rape Victim,
When you complain to anyone in the VA systemthey call them patient advocates. Remember who is paying them. Do these people work for you or the VA? Call your Congressman, make an appointment when he is in town and go speak to him/her.
The care my husband was recieving at the VA was unbelievable. I went to my Congressman who sat with us and listened to our story. It took plenty of fighting with the VA but with the help of a reporter and my Congressman we got my husband out of the hell hole and into the best cancer hospital. Just don't give up. Anyone giving positve feedback was lucky or they work for the VA.
I am now working on things with my Congressman for better health care for veterans and discovered quite a few things veterans are unaware of or should I say not told by the VA.
Keep fighting.

I haven't kept up with these posts. Perhaps someone has already mentioned it, but having oganizations like the DAV (Disabled Veterans of America) and the VFW (veterans of Foreign Wars) among others can help be an advocate for your disability claims, espcially since they know the paperwork and appeal ropes and can unify veterans poliically to protest or lobby on certain veteran issues. I use the DAV in Vegas and it has been very helpful to me. My local Congresswoman, who is married to a veteran and always campaigns on the issue that she is pro-vet, has been very helpful in writing directly on my behalf on one occasion I felt I was not receiving fair consideration for a HUD-VASH section 8 housing voucher, which I finally did receive after being initially rejected. The patient advocates within the VA vary greatly on how much they are willing or able to help depending on your specific situation, but they do work for the VA, not veterans, are often seem jaded. I still say if you're not happy with your VA, a simpler solution, although perhaps inconvenient, is to seek another VA clinic and primary care doctor where you feel better treated. Another example is when I went to see one C&P (compensation & pension) doctor to evaluate me for an increase in my disability compensation, he flat out told me he didn't see any reason to increase my rating. However, a year later I saw another C&P doctor, at the very same clinic, with the same medical conditions as before, and he increased my disability rating from 50% to 80%, nearly doubling my monthly VA check from $800 to over $1500. As anything else, it pays to shop around when regular complaints through channels don't work. The VA employees are only humans and we all react differently with different people. It also pays to brown-nose them sometimes, although we shouldn't have to.

Ok I see what you guys are saying. I was reading and thinking about our rights and this one statement just came out to me "The pursuit of happyness", I would love to see that. I do nto always want to be on VA benefits like for PTSD-MST, Anxiety, Knee problems, etc. I want to work threw it in therpy and move on with my life. I will always be reminded of the night by my TBI and the seizure disorder, I do think that I should be compensated for that till I die, unless they can find a way to make both of these go away. I would really like that:) I just hate that so many vets have to suffer, die, and be without. There is to much red tape, and I feel so bad. There are days that I have no energy to fight and just want to lay down and take it. But I think of my 2 girls and think that if I fight now that I might make it better for them, if they join when they are older. Thanks and have a nice weekend:)
