a large portion of the US budget goes to the military, can't they toss a few bucks toward a psych program to make sure these kids get the support they need when they come home?
.
(the vet homelessness numbers are also quite high, and most times the two go hand-in-hand)

Veterans attending college can't get their benifits and GI Bill, can't call Veterans Affairs without getting "please leave a message,"

thanks,
now that the election is over, it's actually sort of nice here, except for the normal crazies ;)

yeah, it'll all get blamed on Obama, even though it's Congress that actually makes these kinds of decisions.
.
I feel for these people, many are mentally ill, and have addiction problems.
only 7% of the population can call themselves veterans, but 13% of the homeless in the US are vets.
Over a million vets are considered "at risk" of homelessness because of poverty, lack of work, no friends that understand what's going on inside their heads, that sort of thing.
.
our military machine takes them, breaks them, then tosses them aside like yesterdays news.
it's sad.

The Obama administration's proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers' benefits untouched. The proposal is causing a major rift within the Pentagon, according to US officials. Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare's state-run insurance exchanges.

WOW !?? So, you want no new taxes, no spending cuts, and a balanced budget ??? Pretty sad, you're so partisan, you can't see your own stupidity.

As for examples,

Under the new plan, the Pentagon would get the bulk of its savings by targeting under-65 and Medicare-eligible military retirees through a tiered increase in annual Tricare premiums that will be based on yearly retirement pay.

According to congressional assessments, a retired Army colonel with a family currently paying $460 a year for healthcare will pay $2,048.

Hmmmm, the top tier, retired Coronal HAS A FAMILY on his medical ??

BIASED ARTICLE.

Some of this started with Viet Nam, where Veterans came home to be spit on and booed by liberal swine and hippies. Those killed in Viet Nam under Johnson numbered over 58,000, do we hear the same voices screaming about the 3500 under Bush in Iraq. No, we don't. It is more of the selective reasoning of the left.

I'm waiting for the coward to be put against a wall for aiding the enemy, just like Jane Fonda and Kerry.

Dear jumbles, clear your jumbled mind and consider that many thought Fonda and Kerry were right about the Vietnam war.

Yes, that is why voters listened when the 2008 candidates spoke up about the Iraq war and took that into consideration when they voted.

It is also interesting to note, jumbles, that many of us spoke up against going into Iraq and were considered "unpatriotic". I also believe our present second-term president was against the war.

Yes, but LBJ get a free pass because of a D next to his name. This dumb political crap. Lots of suffering in that war. Many of the civilian anti war rabble rousers or followers have gained power as aging boomers and are warmongers anyway. Viet Nam....56 thousand dead Americans. A few hundred thousand casualties. An endless number of psyche issues from the experience. A few million killed on both sides. But a progressive Dem like LBJ is just a lovable innocent victim to someone else's agenda. Woodrew Wilson, FDR, Truman, LBJ, Clinton...murderers all of them. But they get a free pass. For someone else did the dirty deed. Not them.
