Note.. Taken from Vets News Around Oklahoma
I am a Veteran of the Vietnam war serving two years in country 1971 - 1973 and Happy to have served my country!
I have been on Disability since 1999 cause of my Heart - I have had two heart attacks I have diabetes type 2 and all related to Agent Orange. I am registered with the agent orange registry & have been since 1980's.
I have two stints and heart bypass in Nov. 2004 - No one in my family had Heart Disease - I been fighting for years to have Heart Disease added to agent orange as a cause of Heart Disease - Oct. 2009 Heart Disease was added and I filed a claim and I was turned down! I have gone to QTC Medical to be checked per VA - But Veterans affairs turned me down saying mine was not caused by agent orange! I have filed again Nov.4 2009 but was told by Veterans office in Muskogee it wont be easy as it's newly added to a cause & most claims are turned down! Ischemic" means that an organ (such as the heart) is not getting enough blood and oxygen. Caused by blockages I am asking for help to make my life better now and in the years I have left! I have been trying to live on $985 a month and it's not easy today with cost of food - utility bills - and the list goes on. I can't work cause of my Heart problems - stress - high blood pressure - pain - angina and more! I can't get food stamps as I make to much money.
I am on Heart Meds twice a day - I have copd - diabetes type 2 - gurd -: I have not worked since 1989 cause of my one going problems and unable to take stress or lift much and been turned down from work cause of my health problems and most say I am a liability! I have good days and I have bad days health wise but even I feel I am not able to make a living in a true work force!
I am just asking for what I feel is owed to me doing my service for my country!
October 13, 2009 Secretary Shinseki decided to establish service-connection for Vietnam Veterans with B cell leukemias, such as hairy cell leukemia; Parkinson's disease; and ischemic heart disease. This is based on an independent study by the Institute of Medicine showing an association with exposure to Agent Orange. Vietnam veterans with these diseases may be eligible
Vietnam Veterans
Veterans who served in-country Vietnam between 1962 and 1975 (including those who visited Vietnam even briefly) and who have a disease that VA recognizes as being associated with exposure to Agent Orange are presumed to have been exposed to Agent Orange. Vietnam veterans with these specific diseases do not have to show that their diseases are related to their military service to get disability compensation.
I have both as listed below:
ischemic heart disease: ischemic (is-KEY-mic) heart disease, also called coronary artery disease or coronary heart disease,
Diabetes Type 2: I have also and get 20% Disability for my Diabetes:
I am treated ONLY by Veterans Hospital
I had a NEW medical testing done per VA - By QTC Medical in Sept. 2009 -
Nov. 3rd I got a letter saying I can only get 20% for my Diabetes caused by Agent Orange - As for my Heart Disease I was told sorry not do to Agent Orange!(NO one in my family had or has heart disease ) Even my Dr's ( At the VA ) have said it is caused by my service in Vietnam!
In the pages of Agent Orange it is stated - A veteran does not have to show proof HE OR SHE -( Vietnam veterans with these specific diseases do not have to show that their diseases are related to their military service to get disability compensation.)
But I am turned down with proof what I have?
I am getting tired of the run a round and set backs!
(NOTE) Veterans Affair wont go by what the VA Dr's say or what your problems are - YOU have to go to a Dr. Veterans Affairs says to see if your sick or Disabled cause of this case Agent Orange!
But the Dr's they send you to know nothing about Agent Orange or causes or problems you may have! it's called waste of money and time = turn him down so he can do more red tape

I have not seen ANY DLAY - Checked VA web site - If you are seeing this delay, please pass the link for others to read!
ANY one who falls into the NEW listings for Agent Orange should go to there VA office or fill out a claim to jump start the claims slow paper work flow.
I may self have filed and have appointments to see Dr's - Veterans Affairs is taking paper work on Ischemic Heart Disease - So no matter what YOU read fill out the paper work A S A P:
