Hi, my name is Nicole and I really hope you will take the time to read this. Iím writing you hoping that you can help my family. I am a grown woman now and married, but I have a very tight bond with my parents and my younger sister. My husband and I are getting ready to start a family of our own and I want to help my parents before that happens.
My parents are the most amazing people I have ever known, they are strong and supportive and have been through horrible things, but still thank God for everything they have. When I was six years old my dad hurt his back working out in the oil field. He was told by his doctor that it was okay and he went back to work, which did a lot more damage. At 29 years old he couldnít work anymore and he had two small children and a wife. We moved to his parents land out in the country four hours away and slowly built a house from the ground up. He had six back surgeries and none of them work, if anything they made it much worse and he ended up with severe nerve damage. After a few years he made a decision not to have any more surgeries and was able to get disability. My mom hurt her back when she was pregnant with me and tried through the years to work, but it hurt her to stand for a long time and my dad needed her at home for the first few years especially to take him to doctorís appointments and help him after the surgeries. My sister and I knew my dad was in pain, but he would try very hard to be strong and not let us know exactly how much pain he was in.
My childhood was actually amazing, my parents were always there for my sister and us and although we didnít have very much money we never wanted for anything and my parents NEVER got anything for themselves. My mom learned how to be very thrifty and we were all very happy.
When I was 17 the house that my parents, grandpa, great grandpa, and other family members helped build from the ground up caught on fire. I had never seen my dad give up or look defeated until that day and it only lasted a little while. They got a little bit of insurance money and to make my sister and I feel comfortable and happy again they decided to build another house. Unfortunately my parentís bodies were even more worn out and the house was really tough to build. It took a lot out of all of us and we are still deeply affected almost 10 years later.
I moved out a year later and went to college. My sophomore year in college my dadís vision started going really bad because of the steroids they put into his back to try to strengthen it and he could no longer drive. He has severe arthritis and nerve damage and fibromyalgia. He is still one of the most active people I know though, he cuts firewood every winter, mows the lawn, and various other things. He does pay for it though and has ended up in the hospital several times because of severe pain and dehydration because it makes him sick to his stomach. Still the amazing thing about my dad is he still loves life and feels lucky to be here. My parents have been through horrible things, but they are still the best and most supportive people I know. They have done so much for people in their lives; they would both give away everything they had. My plan was to go to college and get a great job and help them out. I did go to college, but I majored in Human Ecology because I want to help people in my life because my parents have inspired me. Unfortunately I ended up working in the housing market and am in a lot of debt from college. I just want to be able to help them anyway I can.
The reason I am writing is almost 10 years later the house is still not finished and is falling apart. It has no siding and many leaks. I was hoping you could donate something to help. My parents donít any extra money; they barely make it every month. Anything at all would help. They are truly amazing people. I just want to thank you for taking the time to read this whole letter; I know it is very long. Thank you very much for your time.
