I know what you mean about the crave - I have never craved anything like I do clay and its similar 'cousins'.
I ask myself the same thing, how could I crave these things? Like many on here I love to read about and watch videos about clay and cornstarch etc. My favorite is the one where Ray Kong eats clay...I would just love to bite into the clay chunks like he does (but his company doesn't sell it in chunk form; I asked). I also love reading this forum and the experiences of others.
And what about the mouth watering? Why does thinking about clay make our mouths water like it does?
Like you I have to eat some of my supply as soon as I get it. I never take any out and about with me, so when I'm out working or whatever I do a countdown to when I can eat it and get happier as it gets closer to the time when I can have some.
I suppose I can understand why people who don't share our cravings don't understand it, just like I don't understand the pica people who crave things like pencils, sponge, hair, charcoal, paper etc.
I practice geophagy and only crave clay and things similar like cornstarch. Does anyone here crave any of the other type things that I mention above?
seriously, why do we watch these videos, why do one salivate at the thought?I don't even get this feeling wit my favourite food!neither do I get a watery mouth when I'm hungry and perceive the aroma of an inviting meal, could there be a side to this whole saga that we need to knw,so as stop this?too many questions.

Some say being anaemic is caused by eating clay type things, other that we eat these things because we are anaemic. It is so difficult to know what to believe!

My personal opinion is that my cravings are due to being anaemic, as I only developed serious cravings once I was already anaemic. I want to believe that the cravings are due to the body trying to say that clay is good and beneficial, but then some say that the clay reduces the body's ability to absorb iron from food!

I have read that being anaemic causes heavy periods - so the more anaemic you are the heavier your periods tend to be. Has anyone else read or been told this?

My fave clay video is "Chewing up stones in Kenya" - the way the first woman eats it makes me salivate. I also like the way the second woman eats it. You can hear her breaking into it and the fact that the dust of the clay is on her hands and lips makes me crave it soooo bad. I showed my sisters and they think im mad lol!!

I know exactly what you are talking about. I really want to taste the Kenyan clay! Does anyone know where you can get it from in the UK?

I am trying so hard not to eat the Ghanaian clay. It has been 5 days since I had it last, but I think about it all the time. I am going to have to get some tomorrow!! Lol

Yes I have heard there is a link between being anaemic and having heavy periods. I am slightly anaemic and crave this clay like no mans business!

If you find out, please let me know. The Nigerian Nzu clay I have had looks like small grey stones, whereas the Kenyan type are really big chunks. From that video, it doesnt look like they add any salt or bake it and it is straight from the ground - I guess it is more natural than the Nigerian type that I am used to! But the way they eat it looks soo good...im salivating now!!

Will do! Have you tried the Ghanaian egg shaped clay? Only water is added to mould it, it's nice, and quite earthy!

They do sell it in the UK, although technically it's banned, as are the other african clays in the UK, so it can be difficult to find as it is usually not displayed. I like it so much although I am trying to reduce my intake. Doubt I will ever be able to stop completely.

I like that video too, have watched it many times. The clay seems to have the right texture that I like.

I notice though that the odowa is described as stones, not clay, but it seems as if at is a type clay? Does anyone know what type clay/stone it is for sure?

I mean the fact that it's banned in the UK should give us that drive to realise that it isnt good!!! You can give it up, but your mind has to be in the right place, if not, it would not work. So for now, I guess moderation is the key.

It is clay, but the easiest way for them to decribe it is stones or soft stones. Which isnt exactly correct as they are chunks of clay/earth! But I like the size of them. Gosh, the thought is making my mouth water again...

The Kenya one can be gotten from wahu foods,a friend bought it sometime ago when we first met then I was not so desperate and because I wasn't sure of what it was I refused to taste, but she ate with so much gusto that I started to wonder what if will feel like to have a bite.I never did,but I saw her consume it like air.if corn starch makes one bleed like clay does,I will also add that when I got hooked on baby milk since I couldn't find clay,I also bled heavily, then the problem may not totally be clay or cornstarch or even milk.there probably(guessing) could be some mechanism in the brain and body which is malfunctioning such that it works by a negative feed back mechanism.by that I mean, the urge mayb comes from a part of the brain, wen this urge is satisfied with what ever powder, the portion responsible for the control of the female reproductive cycle gets negatively hit,as in hormones are altered leading to severe bleeding.I knw a higher oestrogen to progesterone contributes to both pcos and fibroids.so ladies let's kip researching into this,I'm think that a possible understanding of how this works from the tot, crave and satisfaction of the urge to its consequences may be part of the breakthrough we need to overcome this.all I've sad is based on probability, cos I'm sure not every lady here has fibroids or pcos, but lot of Nigerian women addicted to this do have it,could the salt content be a factor?just thinking hard.
