Really? Sounds like someone just wanted to get rid of a neighbor's dog and make it look like self-defense. Well what could be expected coming from someone who chains/ties his dog up outside. Why own a pet if you can't treat it like one? ASPCA should come after this low life officer!

It's permissable in the county to open fire on anything. The present acting chairman will fight you to retain that second admentment right. The previous chairman could have made it against the law to open fire in a neighborhood. But he had a congress seat in mind and did not want to upset anyone.
Happens with people and children just the same. Its all legal.

Why is it that this MORON COPS stories DO NOT coroborate? What he told the police has several discrepencies with what he told the news this morning! He is a pet owner himself, who does NOT take care of his own animal. Neighbors all summer long had to give his chocolate lab water and untangle it from the swingset it was tied up to! You were scared for your childrens safety????? How the hell do you think we feel with a gun weilding psycho cop in the neighborhood? The presence of a police officer should be comforting not scary! the people I talked too said that they perceive this young cop as your typical punk azz egomaniacal barney bad azz immature little man with a complex and poor social skills that could have easily handled this differently.
I can only wonder if he perhaps he was continualy having problems with the neighbor and felt as if the neighbor did not have any respect for him, so instead of simply making a phone call he took matters into his own hands. Respect is earned and is a two way street, don't ya think.
Maybe one day when Barney Badazz grows up and gets a little bit less egotistical and more mature he will look back and realize what a cowardice thing he has done. I say this since so far now one with any credibility has ever said anything bad about this dog that Barney claims was a threat.

I too have always owned dogs and am a very good trainer and from what I understand the dog that was Murdered by the off duty Murder Beach policeman has also had a lot of special training as well.
Nope genius the dog was not shot in Murder Beach but the man that murdered the dog does work for the Murder Beach police department and he does carry a gun. It may have been a dog today but it could just as easily be a citizen tomorrow.

Some times they just get out. All the neighbors will tell you that this dog that was murdered was a great dog and they will also tell you that everyone in the neighborhood knew that the dog was friendly and harmless , but then you like the cop most likely really do not care now do you?

While I can sympathize with the veteran's mental condition, I cannot sympathize with his predicament here.

The police officer made attempts to have this dealt with beforehand, attempts he shouldn't have had to make in the first place in dealing with someone else's pet on his own property.

If the owner was unable to keep the dog in his own yard and away from others', the responsibility falls on his own shoulders.

If you really care for your pets, people, take care of them.

This is a saddening event that should not have had to happen.

The first question I have is whether or not it is true that the policeman is known to not take very care of his own dog? Is it true that several times the other neighbors have had to go into his yard to give his dog water or is that just a lie, because that is the story that is going around?

Also would it not have been not only better but much less reckless for the policeman to have used a stick, baseball bat, golf club, tennis racket or anything to fend the dog off rather than to be shooting a rifle off in the neighborhood? Where did the stray bullets end up? what if he had hit some body with all those rifle bullets flying around.

Say what you like but shooting the dog was the wrong way to handle it.

Also what about Horry County? why did Horry County not do something before it came to this?
I suppose a freedom of information request will yield a lot more answers, right?

IT seems as though the people are way less worried or threatened by the dog than they are the outrageous policeman.

No need to be ware of dogs, it is the cop you have to look out for.

This is a total abuse of power on the cops behalf. If i discharged my weapon in my neighborhood while children were getting off a bus id be in jail. Also it doesnt say much for our officers if it takes four shots to put down a defensless animal, sways more to being a masachist. With all the statements given by the neighbors it showed the dog was never a threat. Maybe if i go to the police academy i can get a badge and have a hollier than thou attitude and shoot whatever the fuck i want. This is extremely upsetting that our vets come home from war, have ptsd, try to recover and this kind of bullshit happens with no reprocussions in the meantime. Karma is a real bith.
