The individuals who signed this should become board members - they appear to have a much better understanding of what the university is about than the.current members. And, certainly more passion about seeing the university move forward in a positive manner.

Well written and to the point!!! It should be quite interesting to hear the governor hem and haw around as he tries to justify reappointing Dragas. She has caused embarrassment, caused those caught in her web of deceit to leave their jobs,(which has proved to be quite costly-a wife gets $42,000???), cost the univ big bucks as she sought advice regarding how best to save her neck, the list goes on and on!! Dragas has got to go; then and only then can a true healing take place!!! If she doesn't resign on her own then she shpuld be forced out immediately!!

These people don't know why Sullivan was let go. Can they read?
They want more open discussion? They already had that from the Board of Visitors and the Faculty Senate. Looks to me like they want to throw more gasoline on the fire. As if it wasn't bad enough already.
Another group who see themselves as legends in their own mind. Talk, talk, talk... how about do! Sullivan isn't doing, she isn't working.
Got any ides about fixing that?
You know, like do some thinking rather than pontificating.

I am, of course, not privy to Gov McDonald's reason for reappointing Ms Dragas, however, I feel as do others that she should have been sent packing.

Thank you.

Why the hell do you think?

I'll give you a hint: It starts in the tidewater area, it involves real estate ventures and lots of money and favors owed.

Dragas is certainly a sharp, ambitious person but I'm sure there is a history of business/campaign contributions between Mr. Gov. and Mrs. Dragas. In fact, I would bet everything I have on it.

The Board of Visitors has the responsibility to see that the University is well run. They didn't see that it was well run with Sullivan as President. I agree, it was faltering and resting on its laurels. The BOV was very clear about what the faults were and still are. Sullivan is a highly paid Executive, paid more than the President and Vice President of our country combined. For that the BOV and more importantly the University deserve stellar performance. We are not getting it
This letter and the earlier one from the Faculty Senate are an orchestrated effort to shift the focus from Sullivan's lackluster performance. It will not work, Sullivan will go, hopefully before the University is turned into a third rate school.

You must work for the hospital and you must be worried Sullivan is going to fire you. Everyone at the Hospital HATES Sullivan because the hospital sucks now and heads are going to roll.

In fact I have news for all of you:

The reason the school is "faltering" is because of the philosophical differences between the vision of the University between the academic side and the business side (who could give two craps about academics.

Sullivan was brought in largely to clean up the UVA Hospital, like she did at Michigan (which is basically her claim to fame, among other things).

If you haven't noticed our hospital used to be ranked in the top 2 or 3 and now it has fallen OFF THE MAP.

Then, prepare to give away everything you have. Ms. Dragas was appointed originally by Tim Caine, and is a Democrat. She is also an intelligent woman who knows how to run a business and make money. Money is what UVa needs, especially nowadays. So, shoot yourself in the foot, UVa, and let her go.

That is exactly the problem. On the outside UVA wears the public school badge with pride and honor but inside they resent it because they know they will never bring in Harvard or Princeton money, yet we feel as if we are entitled to the same perks that Ivy League schools have. Stop trying to be something you aren't UVA. Yes, I work at UVA.

Members of the Press, Pres. Sullivan and BOV members, It is time to take a long, hard look at the Facilities Management Department. The majority of employees in that department are ‘put in their place’ each and every day by managing directors and departmental administrators. Most of the ‘blue collar’ workers are ‘treated’ to a steady diet of top-down disrespect from within the FM administrative structure. Employees requesting special training (computer or otherwise) are turned down flatly, and not only discouraged from bettering themselves, but told flatly,“As long as I work here, you will NEVER be allowed to transfer out of your current position.” Any supervisor/manager who makes such a statement should be fired on the spot! What pompous nerve to keep people under your thumbnail, laughingly preventing them from necessary training which would enable them to become a viable candidate for many vacant positions posted within HR job listings. The vast majority of the men and women working on the bottom rungs of the pay scale are ambitious, hardworking individuals who want to do their best for their families, their communities, and their employer; they possess a multitude of talent and skills, and would have great potential to move into better positions within the University (office support, fiscal tech., etc.) if given at least half a chance. The constant demeaning treatment only serves to quash ambition and demotivate the workforce. Does anyone at UVA have the backbone necessary to stand up for the staff; stand up to FM management structure, and effect a positive change that would truly allow for personal and professional development? Will FM management ever realize that encouragement is a huge motivator, and motivated employees are effective and efficient employees? UVA HR likes to ‘talk the talk’ re: development opportunities for staff but fails to actually ‘walk the walk.’ While UVA is ‘paying people to leave’, let’s put some thought into paying off some of the deadweight who have been holding top-management positions in FM for years. It’s time to stop the longstanding practice of demeaning treatment of staff, and to begin treating everyone with the same high level of respected too often reserved for VP’s and higher.

The BOV, gutless wonders, thats the only way to describe people who go about doing what they did to Sullivan. Whether or not Sullivan is competent or not is not the question, when you use cloak and dagger to oust a public figure you always have something to hide, a lack of integrity, something many on the board have never heard of.

That's weak minded, bites. Sullivan's competency is the issue. This letter by a few alums is an orchestrated attempt to shift the focus. BTW, how does this handful of people speak for tens of thousands? Isn't that a tad presumptuous?
The Board of Visitors has the job to decide. They are not happy with Sullivan's performance. She should do the right thing and get out.
