When in other communities residents take to banging pots and pans, ringing bells or perhaps launching fireworks now legal under state law to welcome the new year, Detroit residents have a tradition of their own: Gunfire.

Thanks for reminding me that the orgy of noise is about to return. The revised fireworks law was another one passed without much thought because a lobby group supported it.

I believe Mr. Napoleon was police chief and now sheriff. He knows how to successfully deal with crime using his data-driven approach that puts officers where the crime is. If that means an officer on every corner, so be it.
