I love to see UK posters respond to this - from the article:

======

Rais, who is also IIUM president, said racal and religious sensitivities were even stressed in advanced countries like Britain.

"In Britain, racial discrimination is strictly prohibited and there are laws there to book offenders.

It should be the same in Malaysia," said Rais, who is an expert on the Malaysian Constitution and legal system.

The couple had posted a photograph of themselves enjoying Bak Kut Teh ( a pork dish) and inviting Muslims to do the same when breaking the Ramadan fast.

==========

What is actually said in UK law regarding this, and if this is an apple-to-apple comparison by that "expert on the Malaysian Constitution and Legal System"

In Malaysia, "public pressure" works hand-in-hand with their laws, and certainly it doens't favor the chinese couple. For example, Al-Islam sent its people to catholic church to participated in their Holy Communion...

"They admitted to receiving Holy Communion and actually spitting the wafer out, an act Catholics consider desecration."

the complaint from church was lodged, but ...

Attorney-General had decided not to pursue the case because of “public pressure.”

http://www.malaysia-today.net/index.php...

KUALA LUMPUR: The Al-Islam magazine has apologised to the Roman Catholic Church and Christians for publishing a special report which involved the desecration of a religious rite.

The apology was posted on the website of its publisher, Utusan Karya.

The controversy began after the magazine published a report, Tinjauan Al-Islam Dalam Gereja: Mencari Kesahihan Remaja Melayu Murtad in its May 2009 edition

In the apology, Al-Islam said it had “unintentionally hurt the feelings of Christians especially Catholics” with its report.

It said in a three-paragraph statement that the report was to investigate allegations of apostasy and the actions of its journalists were never intended to deride the Christian faith nor desecrate their house of worship.

The magazine also stated that the apology would be published in next month’s print publication.

Two reporters from the magazine attended and participated in the religious rite.

They admitted to receiving Holy Communion and actually spitting the wafer out, an act Catholics consider desecration.

After police reports were lodged against the journalists and the magazine, they were investigated under Section 298A (1) of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion.

However earlier this week, it was announced that the Attorney-General had decided not to pursue the case because of “public pressure.”

Speaking on behalf of Kuala Lumpur Archbishop Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam, Catholic Lawyers’ Society Vice President Joy Appukuttan said Pakiam expressed his happiness over the move by the magazine to apologise.

Can't muslims start acting civilised and ignore whatever they perceive to be offensive or a slight to their cult!

Chinese and Indian non-muslims in Malaya re routinely treated as second class citizens in Malaya despite their been more industrious and productive.

While Muslims mock other religions every day, why this special status for only Islam?.
Muslims not only mock ,they also scoff, jeer, and defy contemptuously against every other religions in this world.
About Judaism they say openly Jews are apes and monkeys.

About Christianity, they say Christians cunningly changed and altered their bible, and their Jesus is real Son of God, and Christians worship three gods.

About Hindus ,they say Hindus are all idol worshippers of millions of false gods.

About Buddhists, they say Buddha was a mere human being unworthy for reverence.

In this forum alone, Muslims mock and scoff at other religions. One such example is Rabbeen Al jihad calling Lord Jesus as a Bastard. Muslims think it is okay for them to spit on other religions as their own prophet has done it.There is always a one way traffic for Islam and Muslims. Why?

They call for "acting civilised" only when muslims offended non-muslims. They appear to know what "acting civilized" means, as the following example shows, but the problem is that know they can always get away with being hypocrites, which I paste here:

http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/islam/TT1...

for one example of hypocrisy in Malaysia on government treatment of "free-speech", here's one explanation of why there no need to act against Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali for his 'holy war against Christians' speech:

"because society is mature enough to deal with sensitive issues"
(note: Ibrahim Ali is the person in question for this thread, and president of the Malay Supremacy group)

the first user comment for that YouTube pointed out the obvious hypocrisy:

"If I say something sacrilegious, insulting, and degrading about Islam, will you not put me under ISA because the "society is mature enough to deal with sensitive issue"?

And does this mean the ruling government is not "mature" enough since you can't take a pundit joke from a comic book?"

Any action against this public speaking?

Hypocrites?

Any action against call for 'Bible-burning fest'?

Hypocrites?

There are no shortage of Malaysian publicly speaking negatively about christianity, should they be booked for the same reason?

So Malaysia lets the Malay Supremacist guy get away with it

"because society is mature enough to deal with sensitive issues"

(see last post)

Why all the sudden this belief emerged that the society can't deal with a facebook post?

Surely Malays have mastered "The Art of Self-Insulting" themselves (the title one malay blogger used to attack the chinese couple).

Well, I pride myself in not being insulting towards these sensitive Muslims on this forum.

Okay, I need the number of a good plastic surgeon. My nose just broke a vase on the coffee table. But I do really want to know how to 'really' insult Ishmael's sons.

See this? The same Malay Supremacist guy who was let off the hook by Malaysia government after his 'holy war against Christians' speech is now rejecting apology from the chinese couple and wants to make sure that they won't be "let off the hook".

Do any Malay in government know what Double-Standards mean? Hypocrisy?

http://www.malaysia-chronicle.com/index.php...

Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali has rejected the apology from Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee, saying that the pair should not be let off the hook.

In an Utusan Malaysia report, Ibrahim said that the government should take stern action against the couple according to the existing legal provisions.

"Take legal action first and then let the court decide. If they want to apologise, they can do so in court," he said.
Alvin and Vivian had courted controversy when they posted an image of themselves eating bak kut teh (pork) with a halal logo on
Thursday.
Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported that the bloggers also came under fire from both BN and opposition MPs in Parliament.

BN Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin said that there should be no tolerance on matters pertaining to religion as even the Chinese deplore the couple's action.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim also said there should not be any delay in acting against those who make irresponsible statements against any religion.

BN Kerteh MP Annuar Musa called on all to be responsible as raising sensitive issues would be detrimental to the country.

Hello, AI, for a while I thought you are better than those UMNO nuts, what make you think a facebook joke is such a serious punishable crime? If you call for "quick action", shouldn't you be brave enough to call for the same on Malays who insult others? Read the posts above for just a few examples!

Damn, even the opposition leader sounds problematic.... Malaysia has a long way to go.

I don't really follow this one. Can you give examples of similar cases (MOCKING others' religion) in Malaysia made by Muslims before? I'm asking cos most of the time, uproars were race related or involved threat to Malaysian Muslims''aqeedah'/firm belief (Islam is protected by the Constitution as religion of the Federation).
Wait, aren't they (Vivian and Alvin - Paris Hilton wannabes) the same couple who shared their sex life + videos with the whole world on a blog?
Why not read the rest of his posts.....especially post #4.

Christians worship three gods in one godhead. Everybody knows that they are tri-theists.
Only Christians themselves insist on being called monotheists. LOL
