City officials in Jerusalem have ordered display of a Christmas tree at Jaffa Gate, the most conspicuous entrance to the historic Old City, as a gesture to welcome Christian pilgrims arriving for Christmas celebrations.

Orthodox Jews should not be offended, because a Christmas tree was placed at the Jaffa Gate. Jerusalem is holy to Jews, Christians, and Muslims, so they should all share and partake of the city. If a Christmas tree was placed in front of the Western Wall, that would be a whole different matter. But share with our neighbors, and not get into a contest of over who is the best.

Well stated.
The religious nuts on both sides create the hostility.
We have them here in USA too. But that doesn't condone Arabs hijacking planes, cruise ships, cafe suicide bombers etc. Be glad Israel has control of Jerusalem cause if Hamas had it, you can bet no Christmas trees and western wall demolished. I'll take status quo for now.

I wonder how the Orthodox Jews in NY would feel if the Christian Majority there adopted a similar attitude toward the Menorah as the Orthodox Jews in Jerusal toward the Christmas tree. Jesus was a Jew, and died in their city. Its not our fault that they fail to recognize Him for who He is. But we'll keep trying.

This gross display of intolerance by Orthodox Jews exposes an ugly truth. How would these same Jews feel if Christian majorities in the US adopted the same attitude toward public displays of Jewish symbols? Jesus lived and died in Jerusalem. It's unfortunate that these Jews don't recognize Him for who He is.

Jerusalem is holy to three religions, not to just one. I never went into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and never thought to myself, that it does not belong there. If I did that would be a very ugly attitude to have, and so would the Muslim family, who for generations had the keys to the church to lock it up at night.
