it was a nightmare but after 20 yrs in merrick, we finally had the worst night out. Our reservaton was for 9pm. Out of 4 bartenders, not one thought enough of me to give me a drink so after 35 of trying I left the bar area. That left our group of 10 by a fireplace that did nothing to keep us warm by a cold, windy front door. The two greeters (and I do use the term loosely, were constant in that they did nothing to make our stay more comfortable. Everytime we aske about our table, we got a different answer so that by 10:30, when were were told that it just might not happen for us, then, I finally lost control and screamed for a table...meanwhile still no drink in hand. Any other "SMART " restaurant would have been filling our glasses, on the house and/or kept us happy in some manner...NOT THERE, NO WAY!!!!!! anyway, fast forward to 11pm when we finally started to get our food...it was one mistake after another...ice cold sweet potato fries, not a serving spoon to be found in any of our 4 bowls of veggies, etc. Dressing on, instead of on the side, misquoted information about our dinners all while we froze underneath ceiling fans in the midst of winter. The manager was of no help. Our bill came and guess what, more mistakes in their favor...3 to be exact including 2 extra dishes added that we never had nor asked for. The ending of this nightmare was more than we could have ever imagined when, standing outside already, saying goodbye to each other, the owner and the waiter came running after us accusing us of running out without paying...screaming on merrick avenue for all our neighbors to here. well,of course after re-checking our table, they miraclously found the cash underneath a napkin...An apology you ask???? Hell no, not the Brooks and Porter people, they are above that. They will seat you as they see it..even if it means a group that comes in hrs after you. And if you think they are interested in making the customer happy, think again....I can't wait to ell everyone not to even bother trying it.

funny, I was there saturday nite too and its just so funny how some people just spew venom. We were a party of six and in our opinion collaboratively, we thought Brooks and Porter was every bit as good if not better than Peter Lugers; a usually "unparalleled steak" restaurant, except Brooks ansd Porter oozed classic atmosphere. The steak was not only tender, it was truly tasty. The baked potato was collasal, and the creamed spinach; yumm! The servers were charming and attentive. The steakknives preceded the steaks arrival as they were placed to the side of the the plates in preparation for the coming of the "porterhouses for twos." And then there was the dessert of which there is always room for. You dont want to miss this. We couldnt decide between the amazing selection of cheesecake, apple studel, creme brulee, chocalate cake, carrot cake; and others. We settled on the cheese cake which was so fluffy and yet so creamy; quite the delight. The mouse was outstanding and was served with fresh berries and a shot glass of strawberry sauce, a special touch. The ceme brulee was probably the best I've had. And, lastly Haagen-daaz ice cream with a outrageuos chocalate sauce and awesome schlaag(heavy whipped cream). All in all its an excellent steakhouse restaurant long awaited to this area and finally on the south shore Hallelulyah for the arrfival of Brooks and Porter. All thumbs up. Well be back next weekend!!

maybe you just don't belong in a steakhouse. you were 10 people and you got in to this awesome place on a saturday night? you didnt drink? you didnt mention the steak so i assume you didnt order any. why was the cash under a napkin? didnt they give you a black book to put it in? i thought the place is near the train station, what neighbors heard you being screamed at? how come the place was packed and not one other table had a problem other than waiting for a table (that's what happens at a fine restaurant when everyone want to eat at 9pm on Saturday) maybe your group should try the diner. cheap food and no fans to give you a chill on a saturday night.....sounds to me that you were just looking trouble.

What did you order? Everyone I speak with says the food rivals Lugers. I will call them today and find their version of the story. I cant believe that a table of 10 with a check that must have been close to $1,000 didn't get treated well.

The Owners I just found out are Frank Basile and Roger Basile, The same 2 guys who beat the crap out of our local coach back in October of 2007! They did this in front of all the eleven year old kids. I for one will NEVER spend any of my hard earned $ in this place. Hope you go out of business, low lifes.

I love listening to enormous, beastly Long Island food snobs trade barbs at each other on where they should graze. Perhaps all of you should try eating at home every once in a while and you might be able to actually WALK around Walmart instead of relying on that pesky motorized fat cart.

i have been asking around about your group and heard you have had problems at a lot of the local eateries. i think it is time for your group to look in the mirror and stop looking for freebies.

I was also there saturday night. The group that wrote this quote below are notorious on long island for going to restuarants and complaining and asking for a discount. they com into a eating establishment and begin at the door by complaining. in this case this group came in and complained about everything from the ceiling fans that do not blow cold air to the fire place. they harrassed the waiters, the bus boys and worse the people sitting around them who pointed out what many of us new which was this is a group that complains till they get what they want, i have seen them do this before and I know for a fact they have been kicked out of other establishments. what was most impressive about this group was not what they did but how the staff handled them, they did not flinch, catering to their every ridiculous request and in the end this group of time during a restuarants prime eating time ordered 10 salads and when they were offered drinks on the house they stated they did not drink. my dinner was amazing and the service was stupendous, the only think unenjoyable that evening is that I had to dine near these pathetic losers who have nothing better to do with their lives, how sad and lonely these people must be.

why is it if a customer keeps ignoring the questions you ask them and defiantly stands there and says your being rude do they think or is it just plain stupidity . I asked the same question 8 times the customer still ignored my question and asked for the receipt for a purchase she did not make yet... if she would answer the question for how many stamps she needed then it would be rang up and money exchanged to provided the receipt she was asking for correct me if im wrong you have to pay for things before you can demand a receipt. but instead your beign rude by asking what it is the customer needs to provide them with what they want..... go figure maybe i should have offered her a hamburger instead of stamps
