"Give the 911 center a call so they know to send an officer to the area," said Charlottesville Police spokesman Lieutenant Ronnie Roberts.

Hello??????? Send them TO THE AREA. This is why Longo's Lugnuts can't apprehend squat.

DUH a car is a MOVING TARGET, go to where it was called in and 15 Minutes later its not there any more. Thats what cars do.

Well unless you follow them, which I do not recommend, you cannot tell them exactly where the person is, so they have to go to the last known area. Drunk drivers aren't the smartest people in the world so they probably aren't far from the last known area, anyway. Happy New Year! Glad this turned out relatively safe!:)

To the sea

Wonder who the first DUI of 2013 was ?
"If you see one on the highway pick up the phone, give us a call" Cop should have said:
"If you see one on the highway, pull over to a safe spot and pick up the phone, give us a call" The person dialing the cop while driving may be a lot more dangerous than the drunk driver they are trying to identify.

We should applaud ourselves for better behavior behind the wheel, as far as drinking and driving is concerned, it was our decision not to drink and drive in the first place, not the cops.

There was very little, if any, increased patrol in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. It's all a bluff, they wanted you to think they were going to be out there looking for DUI drivers.

During my travels between 9:00 to 3:00 a.m. the only place I saw any city police cars was down on or around the side streets of the mall, and double and triple parked at the UVA corner. I never saw one county police car anywhere.

How much it will cost a person? How much does "doing stupid stuff" cost these days? No wonder we have a bunch of lelo's out there. It used to be time, now it's dollars.

Now that all the Police bashers have commented...I would like to thank Allen & Allen and the Chandler Law firms for their very kind gesture!!! I would also like to thank the Charlottesville Police Dept. and the Albemarle Police Dept. for their very proactive approach to this very deadly time of year. I'm sure without these community efforts, we would be reading the obituary column instead of the news article...thank you and God Bless...

No, thank the drivers in the first place, cops only react to poor behavior, they don't initiate it, at all, if anything, when you look at percentages, cops as a whole have a poor record for obeying thee law.

You got that right. Most recently, an Albemarle cop stealig from the police department. Before that, a Charlottesville cop stealing from his church. And before these two, the Louisa police chief stealing from the Fire Department.
