Just want to know if someone in this forum can answer my question.
If i buy generic android tablets (all paid for) and I customize them (do my own customized programming) and turn the tablets to a universal remote controls for everything around the house like tv, thermostat, radio and etc. create an external cover for the tablet to have a diff look. Can i call this my own invention? can patent this this as a remote control even though i'm using android system for programming? Second, can i legally resell this product at a hire price and called it a remote control? Also, do I need to pay Google for the android OS royalty even though i already paid for the tablet?

Thank you so much,
Tyler

Hi..
You will not be able to patent that invention as it would have something or the other which is patented. even the smallest screw used in any product is patented. so it would take you ages to get it all right. yes you will have to pay royalty to all teh patents you are using if you need to sell your product. so i guess it wont be worth the effort.

Before you apply a patent check first a similar patent existed. You use existing invention, the android tablet, therefore you can't call it your own invention. The closest thing you can do to call it your own is to file an improvement patent. What you did is more likely an improvement of the utility of the android tablet that you bought.
