VirnetX wins European patent

VirnetX, a small publicly owned Internet security software and technology company that has seen its stock climb exponentially in the last year, announced Thursday that it has grown its patent portfolio again, this time with a patent issued by the European Patent Office relating to secure communications. That's not a new idea - back in the early 1990's there was a file transfer protocol from Caltech that used a polynomial function to generate a sequence of UDP port numbers for the packets, much like spread spectrum radio uses a polynomial to hop frequencies.

I like that a local got a patent, but I don't like that the patent seems to reflect actual running code from nearly 20 years ago.
