The maintenance fee is paid annually in most country and in accordance with international obligations under the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (the TRIPS Agreement), the owner is granted a minimum grace period of six months for lapsed payment of maintenance fee or longer according to the jurisdiction of the countries.Failure to pay after the grace period can lead to premature expiration of patent.
