Since the local media enjoys doing so many stories on the food bank they should investigate and report to the public whether the allegations of an ex-employee are correct. Supposedly under Tatum's watch 40,000 lbs of fresh potatoes were stored in the freezer. That's about $50,000 worth of federal funds that turned to mush. Any idiot knows you cant freeze fresh potatoes. Food bank funds (donations) were used to pay the dump fees and hide the truth. If this is true, just think how many people 40,000 lbs of potatoes could have fed. A true humbling experience.

sounds like a family member owns a business that sells potato's, and maybe another company that is a hauling business.

Those potatoes came frozen and were bad when they arrived. C'mon. Somebody's really gonna make off with 40,000 pounds of potatoes?

You might want to double check that information. According to USDA rules and regs, any fresh product is supposed to be inspected by a USDA official inspector independent of the food bank. The official inspects the product at the point of delivery but prior to the product being unloaded from the delivery truck. If the potatoes had been frozen prior to unloading them the inspector would have refused the shipment. There was no accusation of "somebody's really going to make off with 40,000 pounds of potatoes." The accusation was that due to stupidity, 40,000 pounds of fresh potatoes were improperly stored in a freezer. This caused the potatoes to turn into mush and they became unfit to distribute to the hungry. If this is true, then who was responsible for wasting federal funds (potatoes) and donor funds (funds used to pay for disposal expenses). The public has a right to know the true story.

Since you know so much, why didn't you stop it and/or why don't you call the newspaper about it instead of moaning on topix?
