I don't like it either. The very rich need to pay more. God knows they aren't creating jobs with their big profits. They just pay some poor bastard in Indonesia $2.00 a week to produce $100 sneakers. I'll convince you yet genius. Reagans' the one that fu@ked it all up, not Carter.
Absolutely! The middle class is disappearing and the dumbing down of America is well under way. Mission accomplished.
Flat tax. No more loopholes for the wealthy including BOTH individuals as well as corporations.

I am the boss, I was funning with one of those other experts on poor people this morning. Yesterday, I was the boss from 7 AM to 6 PM....tough day....payday, had to figure out a way to cover the payroll. Wonder if Obama has ever had to figure out stuff like that?
40 mil a year? I dunno, seems like Brad Pitt or maybe J Lo has earned that, maybe Oprah, Tiger, MJ, etc, counting endorsements. Did they earn it? If the people who paid them agreed to pay them that, then yes, they earned it. I wonder if sports/entertainment should be exempt? Not many biz people make that kinda money, maybe a few wall streeters in the good old days, maybe Ross Perot, back in the day, maybe Bill Gates, I dunno.
The sports guys who earn that much money probably would not like to have Chris Dodd or Barney Frank hamper their efforts, whattayathink? Chris and Barney want to do that to wallstreet, right? I think if a publically traded company's board of directors agree to pay their executives, the govt should back off. The shareholders will not reelect the board, if the board does not hire officers who make the corp a profit. Thats the way it works in capitalism....you sell your sh't for more money than it costs you, and that is called a profit. Sell lots of sh't, make lots of profit.
whenever the govt gets into that loop, the sh't starts stinking, and before you know it, everything turns to sh't. I want the govt out of my sh't, if you don't mind.
I wish it was just celebrities earning that much. Bill Mcguire of United Health Care in MN earned
128 MILLION in one year. Capitalism is fine, but this is nasty greediness.
Good luck to you sir.

This is a ridiculous government in ridiculous times with ridiculous leaders.
I hope we can keep communism at bay until we can find a TRUE AMERICAN leader. I'm starting to think Rudy Giuliani might have the Cajones to do the job. Obama is a wiggling bowl of jello. We need a seasoned fighter like Rudy. This kid just doesn't have it.

Ten years ago, I was a Republican and considered myself fairly conservative. All of these rightwing religious fundamentalist types like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, James Dodson, etc. sent me to the other side. I do not like those that try to tell everyone else how to live. I particularly hate the phoney religious @$$h0!3$. I'm now a liberal atheist (that went to Catholic School for 12 years and has a close friend that's a priest). There are many reasons why we all believe what we believe (or don't believe). I like you and I respect your views. I know that you are a good person. The plant I had gotten a decent job at had a huge layoff and on the dole I went. Back then you couldn't BUY a job. When the unemployment ran out we went to see about welfare for a little while. While waiting we sat in the waiting area with other people who were waiting for appointments. We overheard several who obviously knew each other and they were talking about how much they got for ever how many kids they had,and what other benefits could be had if you knew the system. When if was our turn for the interveiw we explained our situation and waited to see what they could do to help us. We were told since we were married we were ineligible. HOWEVER if we were to split up they could put my wife and child in public housing with all the bennies of welfare. We looked at each other in TOTAL disbelief, got up and left. On the way out I told the case worker it was a sorry azzed government that subsidized bastardy and sloth for generations while people who tried to do right by their families were ineligible for assistance. We didn't go back. I went out and did day jobs for the farmers I worked for when I was a kid. To this day I loath welfare for able bodied people and have derided, belittled and generally spat on worthless no account trash like them.
Yep.

In 1968, my dad walked out on my mom, leaving her with three children to raise by herself on her single income. He didn't pay support and she couldn't locate him.

They did own a house, but she couldn't sell it because, like today, they had bought it in an "up" market and she would have had to come up with several thousand to get rid of it. She couldn't.

First, the TV broke and she couldn't afford to fix it. Next, the phone was shut off, and we lived on liver and mac and cheese. She applied for food stamps, but was turned down because she owned a home.

Then the electric was shut off. It was winter, but there weren't programs then like there are now. We had to sleep in the kitchen and she hung blankets over the doorways so that she could use the gas stove to heat the room. A neighbor allowed her to run extention cords to their house to keep the frig going and one light in the kitchen.

When my brother required an emergency surgery, the state paid for it and also gave her food stamps. The electric was paid once she got the food stamps. She eventually had to rent half the house to another divorced woman and her two children, but things were a little better. Crowded, but better.

Eventually, she re-married. And in 1984, when she sold the house to move out of state, she had to repay every dime for the surgery and the food stamps, which had been placed against the property as a lein.

You're right. State aid, welfare and all of it is designed to keep people sitting on their butts and doing nothing. It does little or nothing for those who are trying to help themselves, and I would go so far as to say it prevents people from trying to help themselves. It's a hand out, when it should be a hand up.

Obama blithering about his jobs summit he’s planning:
“We all know that there are limits to what government can and should do, even during such difficult times,” Obama said in brief remarks that preceded his trip to Asia, which will be dominated by talk about the global economy.
Funny, Obama didn’t say that with his bogus stimulus plan, did he? It was IMPERATIVE that he get the stimulus to give money to his buddies.

And now what else did this blithering idiot say?
"Prosperity around the world is no longer as dependent on American consumption and borrowing, but rather more on American innovation and products," he said.
71% CONSUMER DRIVEN ECONOMY, and he blathers that our prosperity doesn’t hinge on a 71% CONSUMER DRIVEN ECONOMY?

Obama is STILL proving, he nor the democrats have ANY IDEA WHAT TO DO to get us out of this MESS. Obama is proving HE doesn’t have a CLUE what he’s talking about.

A “jobs” summit? Smoke and mirrors by Obama. Wants to make you THINK he is doing something. But what is he doing?

And article after article, even Eleanor CLIFT is calling for a PAYROLL TAX CUT...

But there is mindless rabid Reid, and the democrats, gonna mindlessly chase their tails, while the nation burns...

Obama finally stopped listening to his idiots around him, and realizes, he has to do something.

But as we all know, Obama isn't capable of leading, so he can add his "jobs" summit to his "beer" summit.

But meanwhile, he proves he doesn't have any idea how this economy really works, and the democrats are clueless as to how to get us out of this mess.

Don't worry, the polls clearly show, the nation clearly REGRETS voting for Obama and the democrats now.

And it's going to get nothing but worse as the democrats stand around with their thumbs up their....well...you know...not caring about the problems in the nation.

Obama has realized, the nation is telling him to shove it, standing there and telling you watering the lawn is the answer when the house is burning down.

So his answer? MORE BS. He's gonna have a DISCUSSION now about the house burning down. Not gonna DO anything, he's gonna convene a SUMMIT to discuss the burning house...

Yea.. more teleprompter BS. He doesn't INTEND to do anything about the house burning down. He doesn't have a clue how to STOP it, but he doesn't intend to figure OUT how to stop it...

How's that hopey changey workin' for you SO far, huh?

Carter, part Deaux. Incompetent, ineffectual, incapable of leading a nation in a crisis.

It's gonna be a blood bath for the democrats in 2010.

I'd like a source on that "1% control 90% of the wealth" line.

The very rich need to pay more? How much more? Right now they pay more than half their income to taxes. Most have to file income taxes FOUR TIMES A YEAR-- the gubbermint want them to spell out their income that often and mail a check.

And the second BS line "There's still 99% of us to pay the bill"-- you realize that the bottom 50% of income earners pay virtually NO income tax, right?

How much are you going to soak out of the "very rich"? Once you've flattened them, how much will you and the rest of the Noble Poor have? Are you resentful that some people have more money than you and you want to destroy them?

When will it stop? When everybody makes as much or less than you?

True. The system is set up to fail. Clueless people think the goverment just hands out welfare? When you get so far into it, like you were ill and racked up a hundred thousand in medical bills you will owe all this money back to the state. Thus any improvement you try to make in your life will be taken by the goverment, if a family member dies and leaves you even a hundred bucks the gover ment will take it. Our welfare system is desighned to fail.

In Georgia, they are called EBT cards. They probably do cut down on fraud, I think it requires a pin number to use, which would prevent theft as easily. I don't know if it allows anything other than basics, nothing too special like gourmet coffee or anything.
I wish I had one, I have to get store brands and do without.....
Georgia also has some kind of program called WIC, women, infants and children, which I really don't know much about, but I think it's designed to keep women, infants and children from going hungry, run out of formula, diapers etc. Probably a good program, if not rift with fraud.
Despite what I type on Topix, I'm not opposed to free school lunches, free food/stamps/EBT cards whatever, for people who truly qualify....its the sorry bums that get my typing fingers fired up.

Your thread is the exception, not the rule. Clean up the corruption. Stop people from cheating. there has been people spouting this for decades. Now there are going to be the new poor. And as the governments in America keep raising taxes there will be millions and millions of newer poor in a nation that is in decline and moving to tyranny. When that tyranny takes control, believe me there will be many people employed. IN the wrong jobs. And many people blamed as there will be not enough resources to pay them off. An example would be closing off the roads in the inner cities. Or we call them what they are...GHETTOS! Start paying attention to what your benign government is doing. They have already tested this last year in Washington. Remember, people in America are getting pizzed off. There are many who would love a police state apparatus. But you are right as tonight there will be some more pregnancies consumated and the poor sucker taxpayer will pay because of people like you who believe how good this unregulated welfare system has wrought.

This Jet is the USAF C-32, Boeing 757, that MADAME PELOSI uses.

And the Democrats want to talk about Sarah's dress??? Sane people! Are you out there?

Madame Pelosi wasn't happy with the small jet USAF C-20B, Gulfstream III, that comes with the Speaker's job...no, Madame Pelosi was aggravated that that jet had to stop to refuel, so she ordered a Big Fat 200-seat USAF C-32, Boeing 757 jet that could get her back to California without stopping!

Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as Joe informed everyone that Nancy 's Big Fat Jet costs us, the hard working American tax-payers, thousands of gallons of fuel every week.

Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California, cost to the taxpayers of about $60,000, one way!

As Joe put it,'Unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday night.' Cost to us: another $60,000.

Folks, that is $480,000 per month, an annual cost to the taxpayers of $5,760,000. Are you really O.K. with that??

No wonder she complains about the cost of this war - t might cramp her style and she is Styling, on my back and yours. I think of the military families in this country doing without, and this woman, who heads up the most do-nothing Congress in the history of this country keeps fueling that jet while dreaming up new ways to tax us.

Madame Pelosi wants you and me to 'conserve our carbon footprint.' She wants us to buy smaller cars, and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and air up our tires. These people are nuts!
