Over 10 yrs ago one of my parents had to go live at Madison Manor. They were not happy for about the first 3 mnths, but when the Manor started going places and had crafts and other things for the residents to do, My parent was happy. The adjustment period took time but my parent loved it there. Things may have changed in the time that my loved one was there, but I saw no abuse, neglect or misconduct on one that was there. The staff was kind, friendly, and took very good care of my parent. They made sure that my parent was clean, dressed and the food was good. My parent was confined to a wheelchair and it just galls me that people will abuse the elderly or infirm. What happened there some months ago is awful. People have to be careful of placing someone they love in a nursing home. Alot of research should be done before a placement is made. If the Irvine facility is not that good, I have no idea, and if you have a family member there, move them someplace else. From my point of view, Madison Manor took great care of my parent and hopefully some one will take over the place and run it like it was run over 10 yrs ago.

Whatever allows you to sleep at night. But that place has been sued and had the state investigate and women abuse old people and if you actually think your parent was happy thats ok. But more than likely the parent learned to be quite and smile and try not to bring the problems onto them since they had to live there.

But if you were happy, that what the hell difference does it make how they really felt.

I used to work at madison manor, I'm a male and as far as I could see everything was done to code. If you've never walked a mile in the shoes of another then maybe you should just shut the hell up. I had several residents families invite me to gatherings and functions because we treated them so well. that was back in 2006-2008..

To Well in Richmond, Let me set the record straight, 1- I was asked to sign this parent over to the care of Madison Manor and refused. I was not about to have that on my haead and nor did any of my siblings. Our parent did it on their and on advise of their doctor. 2- This happened over 10 yrs ago. THINGS CHANGE!Staff, management, rules and regs change over time. 3- If for one minute that I don't sleep at night--I do. Very well in fact. I had the sole care of both my parents until the died and had to take care of all the other arrangements and deal with all their affairs after they passed. I loved them both but I would never have signed the papers to put them anywhere. The one parent made the choice their self. Until you have to make that choice, make no judgements on other people. The people and staff that worked there at the time were just so wonderful and caring. I can't help what happened after almost 15 yrs but I do know that there are two sides to every story and this is mine. My parent was cared for and loved when living at Madison Manor.

just because jackie did someone wrong does not mean that everyone that works there is bad. There are a lot of very caring people that work there and they get thrown under the bus because a few b**ches!

I AGREE THAT SINCE THE LARGE FOR PROFIT "EXTENDICARE" TOOK OVER THINGS STARTED TO GO DOWN HILL FAST. TEN YEARS AGO, WHEN I WAS EMPLOYED THERE THE COMPLEX WAS OWNED BY THE LOUISVILLE BASED COMPANY "EPI". THEY WERE A SMALL COMPANY WITH HOMES ONLY IN KENTUCKY. ALTHOUGH THEY WERE A FOR PROFIT COMPANY, THEY WERE NOT ANYTHING LIKE THE HUGE "EXTENDICARE"CONGLOM ERATE. WHAT'S MORE, EXTENDICARE IS ACTUALLY A CANADIAN OWNED COMPANY! THEY ARE ONE OF THE LARGEST LONGTERM CARE CORPORATIONS IN THE WORLD. PROFIT MARGIN IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR THEM. WHILE EPI WAS ALSO FOR PROFIT, THEY DISPPLAYED A GREAT DEAL OF CARE AND COMPASSION FOR THE RESIDENTS. THEY NEVER HAD ANY OF THEIR 15 KENTUCKY HOMES RANKED AS THE "WORST IN THE NATION". THINK ABOUT IT!

why in this world dont you come forward and name some names. It is a shame, these poor people are at the mercy of these workers. if all the good ones would come forward and report the bad ones to the authorities then it could make all the difference. They do sweep a lot under the rug and families know this but you have to have some proof. now that this other lawsuit has been filed maybe they will try harder. i feel so sorry for those residents.

SHOULD BE DOING TIME,
r u guys talking about the woman that was dancing in front of a resident? I didn't follow the case but I used to work at Kenwood which is a part of Richmond health and rehab and we were told to entertain the residents if they were being combative so that the resident may feel more comfortable with us and allow us to give the care needed. That was only to be used in certain cases though. As a primary caregiver, we get to know the residents and their personalities and know which ones we can joke with and which ones we cant. Again, i want to say that I didnt follow the story and don't know what all Jackie did but all I read about her was that she was dancing. I think that dancing is nothing compared to one of the cna's eating a residents food and then charting that the resident ate 100%. Is that cna in trouble?

I used to work at Kenwood from 2005 until 2007. When I started there, I loved it. I had what I needed to care for the residents and I had enough help so that we were able to spend time with the residents and help them with the things they asked us to do. A cna doesn't just provide personal care. We are also the best friends that some of these residents have because they either don't have family or their families just don't come and see them. After Extendicare took over, they did anything they could to cut costs. We never had enough supplies and we were closely monitored on how much of a supply we used. The quality of the food went to hell and we were always short staffed. There were more falls and more bed sores because of the lack of help. I can remember working an entire hallway alone when most of the residents were required to have 2 people help with them. I felt so sorry for the residents there and even when I called the ombudsman, nothing was done. I finally had to quit because I just couldn't handle it anymore. I pray for the residents of any facility that is run by extendicare because extendicare doesn't care about anything but making and saving money at the expense of their patients.
