1 How many of the 1,175 jobs are for jobs saved and how many are actually brand new full-time jobs? I know this is breaking news and more paragraphs will be added to this article. I hope Gary Kubota can do a little more research and provide the readers with breakdowns of dollar amounts for each State department along with the kinds of jobs that were created. Otherwise, there will be too many question marks. |

1 So it seems that the headline should have read, "Hawaii will use 1,200 workers to spend the Federal Stimulus funds." This is more believable and would be closer to the truth. Yeah, I was wondering what ever happened to the State's hiring freeze that Lingle imposed. |

Now I understand why Obama keeps saying his Stimulus program will save or create jobs. With unemployment continuously getting worse, the stimulus money can keep many workers from being laid off earlier so the funds are saving their jobs for a while.
But he should have doubled or tripled the number of jobs saved since it wouldn't be verifiable ... but I guess that would be stretching it too much. |

2 Today on NPR the new CEO of General Motors indicated that the US taxpayer has pumped about $50 billion into GM coffers over the last year. In exchange, the taxpayer is now owed about $7.1 billion and and has a 61% equity stake in GM. The interview ended with him saying "this is probably something we shouldn't have done." |

3 It's as if we all took out our credit cards and bought a bunch of items to "stimulate" the economy. Sure, our spending would give businesses a temporary boost, and might even "create jobs" short-term... but what happens when that credit card debt comes due - as it ultimately must at some point? I wonder how long we citizens are going to put up with this? If everyone had an understanding of some basic finance and economics, we would never allow them to get away with this. The politicians count on our ignorance to let them continue this shibai and keep them in their jobs. I'm so sick and disillusioned with government, the politicians, and Wall Street. If and when people finally realize how we've been getting burned, there will be lynch mobs storming Washington. |

4 The AP reviewed a sample of federal contracts, not all 9,000 reported to date, and discovered errors in one in six jobs credited to the $787 billion stimulus program — or 5,000 of the 30,000 jobs claimed so far. Even in its limited review, the AP found job counts that were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of paid positions; jobs credited to the stimulus program that were counted two and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs that were credited to stimulus spending when none was produced. For example: _ Some recipients of stimulus money used the cash to give existing employees pay raises, but each reported saving dozens of jobs with the money, including one Florida day care that claimed 129 jobs saved. _ A Texas contractor whose business kept 22 employees to handle stimulus contracts saw its job count inflated to 88 because the same workers were counted four times. _ The water department in Palm Beach County, Fla., hired 57 meter readers, customer service representatives and other positions to handle two water projects. But their total job count was incorrectly doubled to 114. |

1 Sounds like the White House used Acorn workers to count the jobs created. Basic instruction given to all new Acorn worker seems to be to inflate the numbers. I wonder if the person counting was being paid by the number of jobs created? |

1 I don't think what Abraham Lincoln said applies to the majority of the people in Hawaii. |
