Hey Borough Council. Give them the land in this dirt bag neighborhood for something good. You waste more taxpayer money than this every minute of the day. You're trying to make a few dollars on the wrong project.

i would think the boro would be glad to have some to want the old building and put a new eating place there it would improve the land and bring in taxes.

You have someone who wants to do something positive in this economy and all you want to do is stonewall them? There has to be something else at play here.

The only way a small business can get through the borough is to know someone! We were getting fingers pointed at us when we walked into the hearing. We were rejected before we even had a chance to speak.

Maybe if the owner wasn't such a self righteous a-hole, he would get somewhere. From what I understand, he has refused many offers from the council because he believes that he should get everything for free.

Keith and Melinda,
Good luck to you both, I know how much your business means to you and how hard you guys work. |
Check out the guy's website. He was actually dumb enough to list out which council members he likes. What is this, 3rd grade? NOT a smart move if you want to get anyone to help you out!
To: what a guy and spork (who is the same person): What is your problem? Obviously a peronal vendetta. I read Keith's blog and while he does name Borough Council members' names, WHICH IS PUBLIC SINCE THEY ARE ELECTED OFFICIALS, he does not say anything derogatory. And, I don't know where you are getting your information, but 'they' don't expect anything for free. My guess is that you're one of those members WE don't like, that is why you are hiding behind some stupid names. The whole point here, which you obviously don't get, is that the Borough is asking for money (a lot, actually) for something that they don't use, won't use, and has absolutely no other use!

Geez, like other comments, one would think the Borough would want to help a local person open something besides a chain store/restaurant. We need more individual/locally owned places and people need to support them. What does the Borough want, that we become a town of nothing but big box stores and chain restaurants. They might be afraid they will have to repave that bunch of pot holes in front of the building -- that whole street is nothing but patched pot holes. Look how long the Borough is taking in getting the new street opened to the north of the Library. Good luck to the Stambaughs and everyone ought to try to make it to the Council meeting. Plus, when they get it opened, do give them some business. Skip going to a chain restaurtant and, instead, patronize a local business.

Nah, accidentally used my wife's sn.
I'm pro small business and haven't been in a box store for the last 10 years, but this topic is obviously much more complex than the article shows. Remember that governments are non-profit and no one wants to screw over the little guy. If you disagree with the local council, the election is on Tuesday. Show up and vote. Local elections are way more important to your every-day life than national elections. |

I will vote Tuesday, AND I will be at the meeting Wednesday! I look forward to seeing you all there!

This building was not built after the ADA. Why do they need a ramp?
The ADA does not address only building built after the ADA was enacted. It is all businesses and public places. Look at Gettysburg and all the complaints that woman from Maryland has filed against various businesses. Believe it, if they open their bistro, she'll check it out to make sure it in compliance with the ADA or she'll file a complaint against them. This is her life's work. They are smart to build a ramp, notwithstanding the ADA, because you want to get as many and all kinds of people into your business. My question is, why is the Borough using an appraisal that is from almost a decade ago. It is probably not valid in today's market. Plus, who else would bid on it. They had no problem selling the land that the Commandments' tablet sits on in Wirt park. |

I love Warehouse Gourmet food!! Yum!
Well the ADA has caused so much trouble over the last 10 years or so since it was enacted. Yes I see the need to make REASONABLE accommodation to folks with disabilities, but the word there should be REASONABLE. If it costs a fortune or is not practical well then it should not have to be done. Once again the needs of the very very few out way the needs of the many. Democracy has become bass ackwords.
You obviously have the gift of mobility WITHOUT a wheelchair. Moron. |
I sure hope you never become disabled as I would never wish that on anyone. But as a nurse I hate to tell you there are way more disabled people in America than you realize. You dont have to be in a wheelchair to be disabled. There are many people that cannot do steps due to surgeries, heart disease, or just aging process. These people greatly appreciate the use of a ramp to enter an establishment. The disabled have as much a right to go out and eat as you. I commend this couple for thinking of the disabled and I know it isnt just because they are required to. |

NURSE and IDIOT FINDER... so the world should bend over backwards so every single person it never inconvenienced ever at any time. PLEASE! VOTE with your feet or wallet. BUT do not force any business to conform to the needs of the FEW. Yes there are a few that need special accommodation. We have 350 million people in the USA and 54 million are disabled or 19% and that is every type of disability including the deaf or those with non mobility disabilities. So both of you need to get off the high horse and think. We do not need to cater to every single person that demands special treatment. I guess you want all documents in every single language spoken in America too, over 100. Or perhaps all printed material must be in braille for the blind and all pools should be closed because some people can't swim.

Just a piece of advise for whatever its worth! A bistro will never work in hanover because a majority of people are hard working blue collar people who eat down to earthe foods that the average joe and suzt eat. A bistro is just a fancy white collar name of a eatery that serves food titles that most people never heard of at ungodly high prices. Just my opinion! Good luck!!
