maybe the Eureka Chamber of Commerce didn't do their job. The phones might not be ringing off the hook..if the Chamber had thoroughly informed business about the requirements of ADA.. When there is a controversial legal requirement, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce often puts a link to the actual statute on their website...and for people who can't discern the technical language...the Chamber also supplies a solid substantial interpretation...informing the business community so that they will be able to comply with the law.

I haven't looked at the Eureka Chamber website for a few months. Maybe they also provide business with a similar service.
If they do...then the ball is in the hands of business.

Most business claim to be law and order advocates... then when the law affects them...their thinking changes. What's up with that??

Just to clear up a possible misconception here (not commenting on the lawsuit issue, just keeping facts straight)...
Arctic Circle is not a small business.
Arctic Circle Restaurants is a chain of burger and shake restaurants based in Midvale, Utah. There were 78 restaurants as of October 2007, with about a third owned by the company and two-thirds by franchisees, in Utah, California, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming, with about 50% of the restaurants are located in Utah.
The franchisees tend to be related to the people involved with corporate as well...

PATRICK REGULARLY GOES TO THE THEATRE AND ANGELOS. HE JUST HAD HIS 30TH BIRTHDAY AT THE PIZZA PLACE. THAT ISNT THE POINT. THE POINT IS THAT PATRICK WAS MANIPULATED AND USED BY SINGLETON. HE WAS TOLD HE WAS MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR THE HANDICAPPED. SINGLETON USED HIM TO GET RICH. PATRICK DID NOT GET RICH. HE IS A GOOD GUY. ALWAYS SMILING.
If that is the case, it is unfortunate that he was taken advantage of. It is easy to get the wrong idea when the full facts are not presented. Thank you for explaining further.

Sounds like it is time for some civil disobedience. Someone needs to tell this sheister to leave California. If he sends me a letter, I'll tell him to stuff it. I will not be the subject of mafia shakedowns.

"The closure of Eureka's Arctic Circle last month -- prompted in part by an Americans with Disabilities Act noncompliance lawsuit filed by Eureka attorney Jason K. Singleton -- has sparked community outrage over what some see as a spate of frivolous lawsuits, while others say it's the disabled who remain the victims."

Keep filing law suits like this and the disabled can stay home.
There won't be anyplace to go..but you are so Politicaly Correct, you closed everything down...sheesh

Comply with the law or face a law suit.
Is it really that hard to understand?
Did you actually read the article? The guy lies about the business's accomodations, forcing them to settle because settling is cheaper than a trial. Or go out of business, as in the case of Arctic Circle.

Messtacular, you are missing the point, if a business wants to ignore a segment of the population that should be their right. That such behavior could easily cause the business to fail is aalso thier right. Government regulation to control private business is the definition of fascism. Let the businesses ingore the disabled, then let them fail as a result. With the internet, most things can be ordered in from the USA, so we can tell the regressives to go pound sand.
Ummm, not exactly. Fascism opposes capitalism. Its best not to say that something is the 'definition' of something else unless you actually look up and study the definition. Just saying..

I'm saying we have to many regulations and regulators. Do you think there would be an active internet or cell phones if MaBell hadn't been broken and the telecom market largely deregulated? Think about it, we had no bike helmets or child safety seats when I was a kid, air bags give people a sense of security so they drive in more unsafe ways, these are regulations to "help" us. The less gov't the better. That does not mean no gov't.
Yeah, deregulation has worked out REAL well for us lately in the banking and real estate industries, right?

Homeless people can barely make ends meet as well. Where is their grant money for making a "reasonable effort"?
Oh. I see. Welfare for the middle-class only.
Hypocrites.
There IS lots of help for homeless people, I know, I've used it and got on my feet. Some of them don't want it because they don't want to be "in the system." That's a personal choice.

There SHOULD be funds available so that cash-strapped businesses can comply with the law, I do believe. I loved the Arctic Circle, took the kids there when they were growing up, and now we have a boarded up eyesore, and for what?

I have a question. How does one go about restricting their screen name on this forum? I have been attacked on this thread and on another by a loser that could not refute the points made, so went into personal attack mode. As a conserevative type of guy I really want to hear all points of view. I could very well be wrong, but I have noticed that those that proclaim themselves progressive, while harking back to ideas that were started in the early 1800's, will allow no other point of view. So if anyone knows the trick I would appreciate knowing it. To the twit that wants to make me out to be a .... I don't know what your goal is. I hope you find something that is fufilling in your life, so that attacking those that dissent is less of a grand plan.
