maybe the Eureka Chamber of Commerce didn't do their job. The phones might not be ringing off the hook..if the Chamber had thoroughly informed business about the requirements of ADA.. When there is a controversial legal requirement, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce often puts a link to the actual statute on their website...and for people who can't discern the technical language...the Chamber also supplies a solid substantial interpretation...informing the business community so that they will be able to comply with the law.
I haven't looked at the Eureka Chamber website for a few months. Maybe they also provide business with a similar service. If they do...then the ball is in the hands of business. Most business claim to be law and order advocates... then when the law affects them...their thinking changes. What's up with that?? George Shieman gshieman@aol.com |

If that is the case, it is unfortunate that he was taken advantage of. It is easy to get the wrong idea when the full facts are not presented. Thank you for explaining further. |

Sounds like it is time for some civil disobedience. Someone needs to tell this sheister to leave California. If he sends me a letter, I'll tell him to stuff it. I will not be the subject of mafia shakedowns.

"The closure of Eureka's Arctic Circle last month -- prompted in part by an Americans with Disabilities Act noncompliance lawsuit filed by Eureka attorney Jason K. Singleton -- has sparked community outrage over what some see as a spate of frivolous lawsuits, while others say it's the disabled who remain the victims."
Keep filing law suits like this and the disabled can stay home. There won't be anyplace to go..but you are so Politicaly Correct, you closed everything down...sheesh |

this country enables failure. lawyers like this should go to china to push for precious human rights. see how far your coward dollar chasing asses would get.
|

Did you actually read the article? The guy lies about the business's accomodations, forcing them to settle because settling is cheaper than a trial. Or go out of business, as in the case of Arctic Circle. |

Ummm, not exactly. Fascism opposes capitalism. Its best not to say that something is the 'definition' of something else unless you actually look up and study the definition. Just saying.. |

Yeah, deregulation has worked out REAL well for us lately in the banking and real estate industries, right? |

There IS lots of help for homeless people, I know, I've used it and got on my feet. Some of them don't want it because they don't want to be "in the system." That's a personal choice. There SHOULD be funds available so that cash-strapped businesses can comply with the law, I do believe. I loved the Arctic Circle, took the kids there when they were growing up, and now we have a boarded up eyesore, and for what? |
