from virtueonline:

"Evil flourishes in the dark; light dispels the darkness and brings health. The Roman Catholic Church, of all institutions, should understand this basic spiritual concept that is so deeply rooted in the Christian faith. Financial management and use of funds express values and beliefs more powerful than can any amount of verbiage.

So, how well does The Episcopal Church manage its finances? Errors in budget proposals for the next triennium that were published before this year's General Convention implicitly raised questions about the competence of our financial management ...

"No good reason exists to keep TEC finances shrouded in mystery. Shadows invite, even encourage, wrongdoing. Dioceses should publish a full accounting of their income and expenses ...

"These same principles apply to TEC's national offices, its provinces, and all of its congregations. Most people will ignore published financial reports. Some will read the reports and find the reports uninteresting or too difficult to understand. But making a full public reporting of ecclesiastical is an essential step in establishing the transparency and accountability that God's people deserve ..."

When a denomination is divided on theology, there will always be accusations of mismanagement of funds and coverups. Fortunately for TEC, the theological divide is disappearing. The real conservatives have left, are leaving, are being isolationists within TEC, or are shunned by TEC within TEC. As this exodus completes its course, TEC can be very opem with her finances as there will be general agreement.

The consensus will be that TEC is broke; they can't keep spending on overhead and mission when membership and tithes are severely reduced.

One still has to wonder why this non-Episcopalian is featured in this site so often. He really belongs with the Merry Pirates of the Global South and their North American allies.

Isn't it sweet that so many care about our money.

A shame that don't know we stand on faith....

..... Any business has expenses/costs that are usually paid by at least a sufficient number of customers. If not enough money comes in, then there is trouble.
..... Similarly, if a belief system isn't able to prove that their customers' money is well spent, then there is also trouble. To operate any belief system costs money, faith/beliefs alone obviously aren't enough.
..... I am reminded that in Jesus' time, according to ACTS 2 and ACTS 4, all members of the churches had pooled their property, had no money as individuals, and didn't need any - just as we didn't when we were children. That's why outsiders called them "the poor", and Jesus called them "children".
