Off topic here, i know! But, really! Why does a town like Williamson have a paid Fire Dept.?

Why do they have a paid Police Dept.? Maybe just a couple of Police is all Williamson needs. Like Kermit, Delbarton, Etc... on the weekends.

It won't be long until all the (Paid) local Governments are gone.

Williamson has a full-time fire department, and MCHS sits in a dangerous place. Move on with your life!
I'm fine with that. Are you?

Williamson has a paid fire department because of the close proximity of the houses. For the most part, the neighboring house is less than three feet away on either side. If Williamson had an all volunteer department, the response time would increase. The response time in Williamson is around 2 or 3 minutes, but the volunteer departments out in the county have a 10 to 20 minute response time. What do you think would happen if a house caught on fire and burned 10 to 20 minutes out of control with houses less than 3 feet away on both sides? I'll tell you, the whole damn town would burn down. What do you think would happen if one of the high-rise buildings caught on fire? I'll tell you what, a lot of people would die.

The police department is needed to protect the Williamson people from the thugs in Red Jacket & Newtown. They like to come to Williamson and kill people. I do, however, agree that Williamson could scale back its police force because it has the WV State Police and Sheriff's Department in it too.

Sure you are, you don't live here. I'm fine with the fire department, but never will be with MCHS because of where it is located. It's in a dangerous location, and the roads going to it are awful!

Logan operates with volunteer firemen, and is larger than Williamson in both number of structures and population.

And hey, they even have their Wal-Mart and two fast food restaurants in town, paying taxes to West Virginia and their county, and not Kentucky.

The population of Logan is less than that of Williamson. The population of Logan is 1,779, but the population of Williamson is 3,191. I would imagine, with a greater population, that would mean Williamson also has more structures in it. If you think I'm wrong, go to census.gov and see for yourself. Since you are so intelligent, where would you have proposed they build the Wal Mart in Williamson? The City of Williamson isn't so hard up for cash that they annexed miles outside of the city to have a tax base. Logan did!!! They still cannot afford a full-time fire department. LMFAO!!!

Funny, you think you proved some point I suppose, but nevermind that's only 1,400 people; you're talking negligible populations that don't require paid FDs regardless. All I see is 3,000 people getting taxed for a fire department when a volunteer fire department could do the same job for less money, just like other like-sized communities in the area. It's not like people in Mingo are bathing in 100 dollar bills, so you'd think saving money would be a priority. But, it seems people in Williamson value nostalgia over value to the point I'd say they send their loved ones to the taxidermist instead of the funeral home when they pass away.

Logan Co. is about 40% larger than Mingo and comparatively, I'd say does just fine, though I guess that means as much as winning the Special Olympics. At least Logan is on 119 with a short drive to Charleston and interstates.

You are doing nothing but grasping at straws. I proved Williamson is bigger, in terms of population & structures, and now you are spewing out crap about how Logan County is bigger and better. Desperate people are pathetic! You are just like a little kid trying to find something to get over on me. Keep on going because your intelligent statements are amusing the hell out of me. By the way, the City of Williamson, the City of Logan, nor their fire departments have anything to do with the topic of this thread. Go start your own thread to debate Logan & Williamson-if you are intelligent enough to do so.

What is your problem with the fire department? It has nothing to do with MCHS sitting above a dump. I have a feeling you are from that area. Besides, unless you reside and/or pay taxes in Williamson, it's none of your f&$king business if they have a full-time, paid fire department. It's you trying to divert attention away from the area of true concern-MCHS. The state should have never wasted our tax $$$$ to build that building where they did. It too dangerous there!
.

Well. Just because your complaining about it isn't gonna make it just up and poof be where u think it should be. Grow up and get over it.

I'm smart enough to know that genius! I'm bitching about it and will always bitch about it because this is America and I have the right to do so. The State wronged Mingo County children for the benefit of a few greedy people. If you don't like it that I bitch, then go read another thread.

Actually, you're the one who entered this thread on your usual soapbox about MCHS and it not being in Williamson. Now you're whining like a baby because you were met with an opposite opinion. So how about take your own advice...or are you intelligent enough to do so?

I see, you are a chicken sh!t. It was actually I who requested you start your own thread. You lack enough brain cells to do so, so you keep telling me to do it. I understand; it's hard for an individual with your intelligence to have an original thought. I'll pray for you!
