“I’ve worked pretty hard to keep metropolitan government out of Maury County and spent money out of my own pocket and did a lot of talking and politicking to keep it out of Maury County,” George said Thursday.“Whenever they have the (fundraising) benefit for Hope House, there’s a presence of alcohol,” he said.“Whenever we have the cancer walk, the Relay for Life, you don’t see a bunch of people out there smoking.”
The subject of alcohol and domestic violence also played a role in the sheriff’s refusal to support the Family Safety Center.
Later he recants and says:The sheriff on Tuesday told the Maury County Safety Committee he still has qualms about the grant, but he said his decision was neither political in nature nor a lack of support for initiatives to stop domestic violence.I concluded myself I didn’t feel like I needed to write a letter in support of something I didn’t feel was going to be beneficial to the taxpayers of Maury County
then he says:Several commissioners said they were disappointed last week when they learned George would not write a letter for the Family Safety Center, a program that would provide for a plan of action against domestic violence and ultimately combine the resources of several law enforcement and nonprofit offices under one roof.
i think this all speaks volumns about who we have elected. In NO way could this project have been anything but beneficial to our community! This is about Gearge relinquishing control, and keeping info about his work force "in house" Heaven help any of those within his department have to deal with outside forces getting wind of any Domestic violence issues and dealing with them in the same way as the general public? Lets not air "our" dirty laundry within the department...gotta keep those dirty little secrects in house?
