We have been studying Troll behavior for many years, and find that the main reason they act this way is because of mental health issues or psychological problems. This has been discussed in depth with psychologists and therapists, and they have come to the same conclusions: That trolls are people with serious socialogical, psychological and deep-seated mental issues, stemming from either sexual abuse, mental illness, and problems with their sexual identity.

"Freedom of Speech does NOT mean Freedom to abuse people. People who 'Troll' online are in effect guilty of Cyber-bullying, and we believe should face the same punishment as the crime of Cyber-stalking. This is why we are campaigning to have Trolling or Cyber-bullying re-classified, so that it can carry the same punishment as Cyber-stalking. We ... (more)

I am here hiding, laying in wait with my sword. I want to see my wretched troll before I take care of him.

I don't think trolling and cyber-stalking are the same at all. Someone makes a joke and suddenly he's got to go to jail?

I troll. I don't cyber-stalk. Most of us surf the threads and forums. We don't cyber-stalk.

I'm not a troll or a stalker. I have one after me. If I can't shake him, I'm leaving Topix. I'm a strong woman. But, I cannot tolerate being bullied and made fun of just because I'm blind. Going blind the last 3 years has been hell. I lost my entire life and am having to build it again from the ground up. Which, I will do. Absolutely. I don't need someone finding me everywhere I go making fun of my disability...something I have no control over. I already fight the fear that comes with waking up to near no eyesight...which is quickly moving to NO eyesight. I don't need more aggravation about it. If I can't stop him, he wins because I leave. I won't add that to my plate. I've never done anything to anyone to bring this on myself. That's the most baffling part. I don't know who it is or why.

My suggestion to you is to go to your local police dept. and fill out a report or whatever they suggest. I once had a cyberstalker from my blog and had to threaten her with police action. It worked.

why don't you just make another profile? Don't use your real pic, use an avatar and set everything to private including your location.

I had another person on a different thread tell me the same thing. I'm thinking of doing just that. Topix has removed several posts after I reported the harassment of a disability. The names change, but the comments stay the same. Always a grey box. Never a member. I didn't think they would take it seriously. Thank you for the advice. Sincerely.

Everything is private. Although, they know my user name. I thought it was just jerks who made comments on threads that people had asked me about my blindness and I had posted about it. However, now he's showing up on threads that I've commented on, but never mentioned a word about eyesight, disability, blindness, etc. Then, harassing me about it, even though I'd said nothing. That's how I finally started putting 2 + 2 together to see it is 1 person. That's not a bad idea...... Thank you!

So, if one has differing opinions than you they could be a troll? And since those that troll have deep seated emotional/mental problems they should be faceing charges as a cyber stalker, rather than help as a mentally ill person? Darned if you do, and darned if you don't. I have had people indirectly threaten me on forums, big deal, it is easy to blow ones mouth. In my sixty plus years I have had more than one person threaten to kill me. I ain't dead yet, and probably will die of natural causes. I have learned how to acess threats, and know which are real, and which are nonsence. 99 plus percent are hot air. Maybe I misunderstand the meaning of troll, but not every thing in life can be handled in the legal system.

Internet TROLL

Why do trolls do it?

I believe that most trolls are sad people, living their lonely lives vicariously through those they see as strong and successful.

Disrupting a stable newsgroup gives the illusion of power, just as for a few, stalking a strong person allows them to think they are strong, too.

For trolls, any response is 'recognition'; they are unable to distinguish between irritation and admiration; their ego grows directly in proportion to the response, regardless of the form or content of that response.

Trolls, rather surprisingly, dispute this, claiming that it's a game or joke; this merely confirms the diagnosis; how sad do you have to be to find such mind-numbingly trivial timewasting to be funny?

Remember that trolls are cowards; they'll usually post just enough to get an argument going, then sit back and count the responses (Yes, that's what they do!)

Trolls don't have friends. On the internet, because they interact with human beings, they can convince themselves that they are important, the centre of the universe - that, to them, is better than any friendship. Don't forget, the troll thinks he is always right, and therefore better than other folk. In real life, exactly the opposite applies. the troll has no friends and virtually no interaction with other people.

If he's a teen (many are), then he lives in his bedroom, trolling, playing computer games with 'friends'(who he doesn't know at all), and joining roleplay sites, where - of course - he is a hero, or a powerful villain, who is respected in an inverse ratio to the respect he feels for himself.

If he's an adult, then he has serious social issues. He may work, where people think he's a weirdo, and avoid him, he may sponge off his parents or be 'looking for work', which means he blames everyone for his problems. Except himself.

Most people who are out of work are nothing like the stereotype; most want to work, and gain their self respect through work and being part of the world; but the troll IS the stereotype whining scrounger, to whom the world owes a living.

Sex Life

Almost every troll is male; I don't know why this is.

The troll has few social skills, and most have never had a girlfriend, many never will.

There's a clear pattern among trolls; they are much more likely to ignore posts known to be from women. And when they do respond to women, they are much more likely to be brief, abusive, condescending and patronising.

This is almost certainly more due to fear than misogyny - they just don't know any women. Except Mom. But their attitude rather reduces their chances of reproducing, which is probably a good thing.

No. They are a troll if they follow you everywhere you go, harassing you, threatening you, with no reason at all. Like, with my blindness. Some start entire nasty threads about you. Many start vicious rumors about unspeakable things. It's not just an argument. If you pay attention, you will see them. Some get banned. A girl got banned because she was talking about how stupid blind people are, she was going to knock my teeth down my throat with her friends, threatening to beat up blind people in general, many derogatory things that I won't even retype. She's banned now. I can throw a hard as stone punch, but I'm clearly at a disadvantage with almost zero eyesight. She had a place and time set up. I come from an area full of drug addicts and violent people. Those kind of threats are often carried out there; some are killed. The police are a joke and it's known as the best place to go to get away with murder. There's a national documentary coming out exposing all this being filmed now (drugs, rapes, deaths, etc). I have talked to the director personally. This person follows me around harassing me about being blind and I need to disappear. They know I've talked to the documentary people. I've already been through a double rape and I don't intend to ever go through another instance of brutal violence. I'd rather be dead. Honest. You can rag on me all you want, but I'm not taking chances.
