To the extent that the government owns part of a company due to the bailout the administration should have some say and only as much say as they have interest in that particular company. Other than that it is frankly none of the governments business what a company wants to pay its ceo. That should be up to the people who own the company. Its not about taking up for ceo s it is about private property rights, I don't want to see the government take them from me or anyone else. Maybe it has nothing to do with any of that, perhaps Obama just wants to start a controversy over ceo pay because he knows that gets everyone riled up with wealth envy. That way they are not paying attention to our loosing half a million jobs for every month he has been in charge. What about his billions and billions for the stimulus package. Nothing, we got 150,000 jobs they say, of course we have lost millions but he does not like to talk about that. He owns this one, he can't blame it on bush, his budget with a deficit 4 times what bush had and his stimulus package. I can't wait to throw the bum out at the next election.

The government has no room to criticize what people do with their money, look what they do with theirs. In 1921, oil tycoon Harry Sinclair gave several prize head of cattle and around $269,000 to President Harding's Secretary of the Interior, Albert Fall. In return, Sinclair got the exclusive rights to drill in an oil field in Wyoming. Sinclair's no-bid contract became the Teapot Dome scandal, the most notorious example of political corruption in America prior to Watergate. Between 2000 and 2008, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union gave $23,675,562 to the Democratic Party and its candidates. In 2008 alone, the UAW gave $4,161,567 to the Democratic Party, including Barack Obama. In return, the UAW received 55 percent of Chrysler and 17.5 percent of GM, plus billions of dollars. But nobody's calling this a scandal. It's time we start.

Government control of business. Step in do something big and sweeping like chop bonuses and airplanes while cutting the companies off at their knees. It looks good for their constituents at home but wrecks industry. The aviation industry is now failing as a direct result. It only encourages the dishonest games such as simply getting your plane off the books or companies getting rid of tools such as planes when they need them the most. This is not the same country and the path we are on has done more damage then anything we have ever done in the history of this country; even if we stoped now and took steps to reverse it. We are in for a long dark road!

Be fair now - this one sided bullshit is nothing more than that.

Left to the tender mercies of the free market, Chrysler would have gone under, shuttered its factories, and scores of Americans would be out of work. Fortunately the government stepped up and provided a lifeline. Because of that American workers were spared a lot of misery, the economy a lot of trauma, and the world went on. Not only that, we had a new capitalist folk hero in Lee Iacocca. During the Reagan Administration. Scandal? President Obama is taking a play from the Reagan playbook. We should wish him well.

Time to demand substance while they are too busy spending our money to ensure it is well spent and not wasted as much of it has been already. To continue on like nothing has happened is the worst mistake we can possibly make. It would have been better for it all to crash around our ears than let these criminals walk away unfettered or touched in any way. And that includes Congress.

We Americans know that our Pres. speaks eloquently, as most Harvard lawyers do. But can he do anything? And certainly he has no authority over corporation bonuses or caps on raises.

It's interesting how many posters seem willing to defend these greedy corporate Godzillas who have been feeding off the rest of us, and who are primarily responsible for the financial collapse.

They've been feeding off of you, huh? So, what you are saying is YOU employ THEM. Who do you think writes all of our paychecks. It sure isn't someone like you. Oh, I'm sure they are writing you a HUGE thank you note right now, for all that you've done for them and provided them. Which is what? How have they been feeding off of YOU?
