The real scandal: Political gridlock

There are 31 comments on the www.newsobserver.com story from May 20, 2013, titled The real scandal: Political gridlock. In it, www.newsobserver.com reports that:

During President Obama's first term, Republican leaders in Congress said their highest priority was to make Obama a one-term president.

Yes, there was an election, and, despite high unemployment, a majority of voters sent a clear message that they supported Obama’s priorities and his agenda. But that hasn’t stopped Republicans from trying to nullify the vote by blocking the president’s nominees and freezing his agenda through gridlock.

The obstructionism has been relentless. Senate Republicans have used the threat of filibuster to hold up nominees for federal judgeships and key administration posts.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that 85 federal judgeships are vacant. That’s 10 percent of the judiciary not functioning...

No. still trying to screw the old & young, and middle class, to give more to the very rich.
Glad you're watching him.
Me too.
That is nothing but left wing lies. Go read the news and see who has always made things more difficult for the poor and elderly. It isn't the republicans. Even now, the left are talking about cuts that will hurt the elderly and poor the most.

And why do you lie through your teeth because your Democratic schemes fail miserably and YOU are the ones causing harm?

Obamacare will hurt poor and elderly..........

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised that participation in the Program would be completely voluntary.

No longer Voluntary

That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

No longer tax deductible

Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent

That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Under Clinton & Gore Up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed.

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically
Controlled House and Senate.

Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, wit h Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

The demorats are the enemy of the elderly and the kings of blame.

Issa can't be impeached for following the constitution, which he is investigating the obama administrations violations of that great document. There are democrats who are involved with these investigations espeically the AP phone number scandal which many democrats say is unacceptable. It must be OK for you for a President to violate US Law, it isn't for the rest of us.

You don't get it do you??

Gosh Bonnie, I googled big Pharma and this came up #1. Enjoy!
The real reason the White House opposes this legislation, in my opinion, is that the White House is far too cozy with drug companies. Big Pharma maintains strong ties with the Bush Administration and helped elect virtually every Republican currently in office. In return, the Bush Administration has worked to pump up the profits of drug companies at every opportunity: His administration made it illegal for the U.S. government to negotiate volume discounts on Medicare drugs, he's pushed for mandatory "mental health screening" of children that would result in a windfall of profits for psychiatric drugs, he has supported legal immunity for drug companies in cases where patients are killed by drugs like Vioxx, and he has supported the FDA's actions on banning drug imports and protecting monopoly drug pricing in the United States.

we acutally do not know which legal authority they used to get the phone logs but the Patriot Act is only 1 tool. The DOJ has many tools to get the job done, including administrative subpoenas and "national security letters"; both of which do not need judical oversight.

In regards to the Patriot Act, it has been said by congressmen that the way our gov is interpretting is way over the legal bounds. So they use the PA to collect the data they need but use another tool like admin subpoenas or the national security letters to get the hard data they use in court. They do not want to use the PA data as during the court proceedings, it will come out how far they are overstepping in regards to the law.
