Supreme Court Will Review DOMA, Prop 8 Challenges

Dec 20, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: EDGE

On December 7, marriage equality proponents heard the news they'd been waiting to hear: that the Supreme Court will review whether the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8 violate the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution.

"Jim and I are married," said Koski. "We are a family, but we are not treated like every other family in the U.S."

Because they are not like every other family in the U.S., they are two men.

And their kids will be raised to be less bigoted and hateful than your's. That makes them better parents.

So what makes this news?

It isn't even "news" that the EDGE is AGAIN speculating what angle on the issue the attorneys will argue when they get before the SCOTUS.

I'm beginning to really not like the "EDGE".

Do you know my kids? Maybe your just being stupid.
Maybe you think two men are the same as a man and a woman?

Just as inter-racial couples were not like every other family in the U.S at one time..........

You are very hateful and mean. They are a FAMILY, no matter how much stomping your teensy little feet that you do.

I don't need to know your kids personally to know what their feelings towards the subject would be, based on your ignorant screed. I just hope they'll be smart enough to see the light for themselves when they're older and hopefully hide you away in a nursing home where you bitch all you want.

You can't judge an individual unless you know them.
Assumptions just make you appear stupid. My kids were taught that bullying of any kind would not be tolerated. They were told that if you don't like someone you avoid them. You don't call them names and you don't pick on them physically.

Let's deal with your calling me ignorant.
Ignorant means that a person is unaware of something.
I said those men weren't just like every other family. What part of that was inaccurate?

Yes, they're not the same, just as two men aren't the same either. My husband is different than I; no two people are the same.

No family is just like every other family; they're all different in some way.

You focus on the gender aspect, while others focus on race or religion or height or weight or personality or hair color or the myriad of other differences between families.

It's just how you justify your bigotry.

How do you justify yours?

Rhett aren't arguing that someone should be treated differently, with less than equal protection of the law. Ergo they are not being bigoted or intolerant.

What an odd question.

Can you show us any of the posts where Sheeple said he wanted to deny ANYONE basic civil or human rights based on some trait, like race, religion, gender, or orientation.

I can't seem to recall any.

Another odd question.

Are you trying to say that every man is exactly like every other man? Or that the only human differences are gender differences, and that they are the only ones that matter?

All humans are different. And yes, men and women are different, too.

But that has no bearing on a marriage license. It's not a LEGAL difference. We are all entitles to the same protections under the law, regardless of gender.

If you want to define which differences are acceptable in order to obtain a legal marriage license, I think you would have a great deal of difficulty, because every single human views marriage just a bit differently.

To deny that license to anyone, no one cares how alike or different they might actually be from any other couple seeking a license.

To legally deny that basic civil right, you would need to prove that two men receiving a marriage license would not benefit by it, and that their children would not benefit by it, or that society would be damaged by granting it.

That's it.

And so far, no one has been able to do that in a logical way, including yourself.

Really? He said:

He often refers negatively to black people except when he wants to draw a parallel between black civil rights and the gay agenda.

There are many legal differences related to a marriage license. In fact, the rules and requirements in any given state can be quite extensive. What you believe and what is appear to be two very different things.

Of course, the question at hand is whether a legitimate state interest is served by denying same sex couples equal protection of the law to marry. Do you know why? Because such an interest would have to be served in order for such a restriction to be constitutional, and for the law to pass the lowest level of judicial scrutiny.

Are you capable of articulating any such state interest served by denying same sex couples equal protection of the law to marry?
