"They literally come in Thursday through Sunday to conduct prostitution, drug sales and other illicit activities and then leave," Santa Cruz Police Deputy Chief Rick Martinez said. "We obviously welcome the ordinance; it will empower our officers to take action when we do get complaints."

Is Chief Rick our new "police department spokesman?

Where's civilian Demo Central Committee member/head Zach Friend and his words of wisdom for us? He's paid around as much as Bill Monning yearly. What's his background, qualifications, etc, and, btw, what's he up to today?

Employee Name FRIEND, ZACHARIAH
Position PRINCIPAL ADMIN ANALYST
Regular pay 91799.37
Overtime pay 0
Total pay 91799.37

You really should get out of Mommy's basement and take in some sun and fresh air.

Maybe do a few push-ups to get rid of your man-boobs.

Bindu at the El View is lying. I've personally known that disgusting establishment specializes in illegal activity, particularly prostitution. So sad since that is a very nice site. Typical of Santa Cruz that we give the best spots to the scum of the earth.

Im not surprised at this..makes sense to me and why would some Hotel Owner not want to verify the identity of a guest just in case the room is vandalized or whatever? You have to show a picture ID to rent a car or get on an Airplane or cash a check..Duh! But showing proper ID is only mandatory for American Citizens!!!Illegals are exempt from proving Identity...they can be who ever they want..and no way to prove it...I stay at high end Hotels quite a bit and they ALWAYS ask me for a picture ID..these scummy ones should be no different...Whatever it takes to remove criminals from Santa Cruz im happy with...Johnnhy at sthe Harbor, On Pervert alert.

Zach Friend is busy right now, after all he works hard as the Democratic Party President, of Santa Cruz.

He is busy doing the bidding of the corrupt government now in the White House and it's administration.

Sam Farr's boot heels click and Friend starts licking!

He is probably busy with the "Chairman"

If that kind of activity is exposed by the police when no crime has occurred, and it results in death, divorce, assault or public humiliation, we'll see an interesting lawsuit out of that, and a big payout.

This is the second article of the same name. The earlier one had a lot more comments.

By the way, what happened to the article about the 152 tickets?

Santa Cruz the home of the gestopo years ago the SCPD used to go around and look at registrations of hotel/ motel guests. I am sure that they still do this so really any body that is questionable is run anyway. And most hotel clerks ask for picture id anyway, on the off chance that there is any funny business going on.

Don't know what you all are bitching about, this will require simple accountability for the people who are visiting our city. I like that! If you want a room, show ID. If there are problems, this info will be passed on to the police. Why would anyone have a problem with that unless they are up to no good or hiding from the law? This is not about personal freedoms. As Johnny states above, you have to show ID to use a credit card most places, or to rent a car or anything else. If you are coming to SC to party or raise hell, be aware that people are watching you. Your name and ID will be taken down and passed on to the police. No more anonymous (or fraudulent) hotel rentals!

you would think a legit' innkeeper would want to have a positive ID on thier guests for liability purposes. The law is you have to be 18 to rent a room and a Motel/Hotel etc., so why aren't they now? Sounds to me like Santa Cruz Leaders have been looking the other way instead of enforcing this law because of the high rate of occupancy tax that flows each year. Okay friends time to judge. AM I NUTS, CLUELESS?? Let's hear it!

Good point. This only applies to legal citizens, all others are free to continue breaking any laws they want.
