So the courts have known of his history since 2005 and for some reason he was allowed to roam free for 8 years?

It is incredibly sad that the news team feels the need to release such private details about his family. While he is one messed up human being there is absolutely no reason you need to humiliate his son in such a way. He has been through so much having to live with his father. It is truly a shame.

Marcus - no, the courts new about it in 2005, had the reports at that time investigated and determined the accusations were 'unfounded'. If there is a failure let's look at who did the investigation - it may be in or outside of the justice system. I'd believe justice system failed if no investigation was conducted at all.

I'd love to know the definition of 'unfounded'- not based on fact or not able to determine beyond a reasonable doubt? Probably something in between.

Shame on the news media for telling the whole community that this boy was molested by his father!
What good did it do the community to shame this young man further? Now I remember why I don't watch this crap!

Apparently it was a "forensic psychologist" who determined that this man was "harmless." I guess a degree in "forensic psychology", plus a dollar and a half, would be sufficient to buy a cup of coffee at McDonald's.

I've known the Watkins since I was a child. It's inhumane to release such graphic details about the son, because you are as good as saying his full name in this article.

That said, I always knew the dad was a creep. He always gave me weird vibes, but I never thought anything of it until now.

I guess his ex wife has been waiting a long time to spill the news on him, hu.
She seams like she is really mad, sickened , frustrated , and wants nothing more than to be involved In making sure this guy rotts in jail for a long time, for what shame he has brought to his family. And her. And his son. I'm in,

Let me get this right. The Boy Scouts were the first organization to report him to the police, yet the press continues to assassanate the program. Lets stop investigating the Boy Scouts and start investigating the family court system.

I don't believe it was the Boy Scouts who reported him, it was a victim who came forward. He had been dismissed from the Scouts as a leader. Wonder if his release was due to inappropriate behavior? If so, why weren't charges brought by the BS when he was released in June? If it was for inappropriate behavior, this only makes the BS look WAY worse.

"...the court decided all the claims were unfounded..."

And is is most often the case, the court was wrong.

Its Virginia: unfounded and factual truth are essentially nothing more than the mood the judge is in--wanton decisions from reckless judges.

There is a difference between inapprpropriate behaviour within the Boyscouts' rules and the crimes being referred-to in the current investigation.

NBC 29-- I can't believe what I just read! You release intimate details about what the father may have done to his son? We have known Mr. Watkins' son for years. He is a fine young man, still in his teens, who has done nothing to deserve the public humiliation that will now come because of your irresponsible decision to print information about him in this story. You just made what is already a horrible situation for him far worse! You owe him and a community that deserves thoughtful, responsible journalism a huge apology. Just because you have information does not mean you should publish it!

Get used to IT!
If this "story" is so, the EVILScout was simply working on his NAMBLA merit badge.
"Badges? we don't need no stinkin' badges"

So thoughtful of the media to further complicate the son's horror outside the courtroom BEFORE the next phase of this ongoing case.
